Deal Alert: BYD Sealion 6 Essential Announced

The 2025 BYD Sealion 6 Essential has been added as a new entry-level variant in the range.

Priced from $42,990 before on-road costs, the Sealion 6 Essential is $3000 cheaper than the previous entry-level model – the Sealion 6 Dynamic.

Surprisingly, the latest announcement comes just days after BYD dropped prices across its range, with the Sealion 6 Dynamic itself receiving a price cut of $3000.

The range-topping Sealion 6 Premium remains priced from $52,990 before on-road costs.

The Sealion 6 overlook the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV as Australia’s best-selling plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in 2024.

The BYD uses a 1.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder engine and an electric motor to power the front wheels, producing a combined 160kW and 300Nm – with an electric-only driving range of 80 kilometres before the petrol engine kicks in.

The BYD Sealion 6 was also awarded a five-star safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

According to BYD, the launch of the Sealion 6 Essential was bought forward by several weeks due to sales demand.

The 2025 BYD Sealion 6 Essential is on sale now, with deliveries to begin in March 2025.
