Kia has announced the details of its first three-row seat electric flagship SUV, the Kia EV9. It is built on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and is targeted towards being a sustainable mobility solution. The EV9 is designed to provide an athletic performance and has a targeted range of over 541 km according to the World harmonized Light vehicle Testing Procedure (WLTP) and can be recharged to power the vehicle for 239 km in approximately 15 minutes through its ultra-fast 800-volt charging capability.

Design

The Kia EV9 is designed with natural and modern elements. It has a wheelbase of 3,100mm, an overall length of 5,010mm, and a bold and contemporary appearance while maintaining its unique character. The front features a 'Digital Tiger Face' that showcases its unique identity, and it is accentuated by the 'Digital Pattern Lighting Grille' and vertical headlamps. The EV9 also features four different seating options in the second row, providing customers with a variety of usage methods to choose from: including 3-seater bench seats, basic-type, relaxation-type, and swivel-type two-seater independent seats, providing customers with a variety of usage methods to choose from.

Sustainability

The Kia EV9 is built with eco-friendly materials that apply ten sustainable items to all new Kia models and continuously increase the use of bio-based materials such as corn, sugar cane, and natural oils. Kia’s goal is to increase the proportion of recycled plastics it uses to 20% by 2030.

Electric Drivetrain

The EV9 features a broad choice of electric powertrain configurations based on the E-GMP and utilizing Kia’s fourth-generation battery technology.

  • Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Standard model with a 76.1-kWh battery and a single 160 kW / 350 Nm electric motor
  • Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) Long Range model with a 99.8-kWh battery and a single 150 kW / 350 Nm electric motor
  • All Wheel Drive (AWD) variant with a 99.8-kWh battery and two electric motors producing a total output of 283 kW and a combined torque of 600 Nm
  • A Boost feature available for later purchase at the Kia Connect Store can increase the AWD variant's combined torque to 700 Nm and accelerate the EV9 from 0-to-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.

Highway Driving Pilot

The EV9 has a Highway Driving Pilot (HDP) system, enabling it to achieve conditional Level 3 autonomous driving in selected markets. This technology enables the car to provide intelligent, proactive, real-time assistance across a wide range of conditions, enabling the driver to temporarily take a break from controlling the vehicle.

Kia Connect Store

The Kia Connect Store enables customers to purchase digital features and services on demand, giving them the flexibility to choose the features they want and continuously upgrade the capability of the EV9 with Over-the-Air updates at any time.

Safety and Convenience

The EV9 incorporates numerous advanced driver assistance systems to enhance passenger safety, such as Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), designed to aid drivers in potentially dangerous scenarios. The EV9’s chassis frame structure features an exceptionally high-torsional stiffness, providing class-leading levels of protection and safeguarding for both occupants and batteries.

Global Campaign

Availability

Kia will begin offering pre-orders of the EV9 for the Korean market in the second quarter of 2023. The Kia EV9 will go on sale in selected global markets from the second half of the year.
