GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV Set for Australian Launch in April 2025

GWM has announced that the Cannon Alpha Plug-in Hybrid EV (PHEV) will be available in Australia from April 2025. The vehicle will be offered in two grades, with the Lux priced at $63,990 drive-away and the Ultra at $68,990 drive-away.

The Cannon Alpha PHEV is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 37.1kWh lithium battery. The manufacturer states that the system delivers a combined output of 300kW and 750Nm, with an electric driving range of up to 110km (NEDC) and a total claimed range of 880km.

The vehicle features a four-wheel drive system with front, rear, and centre locking differentials. GWM lists its towing capacity at 3,500kg (braked), a ground clearance of 224mm, and a water wading depth of 800mm.

Charging options include DC fast charging at up to 50kW, which GWM states can charge from 30-80% in 26 minutes. AC home charging takes approximately 6.5 hours, and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function allows external power output of 3.3kW.

The Cannon Alpha PHEV will come with an 8-year/unlimited kilometre battery warranty, a 7-year/unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty, and 7 years of roadside assistance and capped-price servicing. GWM has confirmed that the model will be available across its Australian dealership network.

Standard features on the Lux grade include 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Ultra grade adds a 14.6-inch infotainment display, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats, and an upgraded audio system.

Pre-orders for the Cannon Alpha PHEV are now open through GWM dealerships and the company’s website.
