Hyundai Motor Group has announced the establishment of the Hyundai Motor Group Global Design Division. The division will focus on designing all-electric vehicles and future mobility solutions, such as purpose-built vehicles (PBVs), robotics, and advanced air mobility (AAM).
The new Global Design Division will be headed by Luc Donckerwolke, the President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group. Donckerwolke will also retain his current role as Chief Creative Officer (CCO), overseeing all creative aspects of design for Hyundai Motor Group brands.
In addition to his leadership roles, Donckerwolke will work to create an environment that fosters creativity among designers. His goal is to enable designers to lead transformations and continue to shape the future of the global mobility industry.
The Global Design Division will include the Hyundai & Genesis Global Design Technical Unit and the Kia Global Design Technical Unit. SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President, will lead the Hyundai & Genesis unit, while Karim Habib, Executive Vice President, will lead the Kia unit.
As part of the reorganization, the new Genesis Design Center has been founded under the Hyundai & Genesis Global Design Technical Unit. Each brand within the Group—Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis—will now have its own design ethos and identity.
The design philosophy for Hyundai is "Sensuous Sportiness," for Kia it is "Opposites United," and for Genesis it is "Athletic Elegance." Simon Loasby, Vice President, has been appointed as the head of the Hyundai Design Center.
Ilhun Yoon, Vice President, will lead the newly established Genesis Design Center. Yoon will focus on creating designs that enhance the customer experience for Genesis brand vehicles.
