The Ford Ranger Tremor is the latest limited edition for the Ranger Ute since the Wildtrak X launched at the same time last year.

About once a year, Ford Australia negotiates with their Thailand manufacturing facility to run a limited batch of Utes through their production line, and the Tremor is the result of this year's collaboration.

Limited to just 1,150 units, this ute is based on the mid-spec Sport trim but comes loaded with a range of off-road enhancements.

Priced at $69,690 AUD, it’s positioned as an off-roading hero for not much more than a mid-spec Sport trim. But is it really worth the extra $3,550 over a Ranger Sport Bi-Turbo?

In today’s review, we’ll explore the exterior upgrades, delve into the interior features, take it for a drive on-road, and, of course, see how it handles off-road to determine if these upgrades truly make a difference.

Let’s dive in!

How much does the Ford Ranger Tremor cost?

The Ford Ranger Tremor is priced at $69,690 AUD, which positions it as a premium option in the Ranger lineup.

This price is about $3,500 more than the mid-spec Sport trim on which it’s based.

The added cost brings with it a host of off-road enhancements and unique features that distinguish the Tremor from other Ranger variants, namely the bespoke Bilstein dampers with an external oil reservoir shared with the Wildtrak X, 17-inch black alloy wheels, 265/70 R17 General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres, increasing ground clearance by 24mm and widening the track by 30mm.

Considering the limited production of just 1,150 units, the Tremor offers a mix of exclusivity and capability that might appeal to those looking for a ready-to-go off-road ute straight from the factory without having to aftermarket similar parts themselves.

What’s the exterior like of the Ford Ranger Tremor?

The exterior of the 2025 Ford Ranger Tremor is designed with a focus on off-road capability while maintaining the familiar styling of the Ranger lineup. Based on the mid-spec Sport trim, the Tremor introduces several distinctive elements that differentiate it from other variants. The Conquer Grey paint, a colour shared with the Ranger Raptor, gives the Tremor a unique appearance that is sure to attract attention both on and off the road.

At the front, the Tremor features a specific off-road grille, which includes integrated auxiliary LED lights for enhanced visibility during nighttime driving. The vehicle retains the C-clamp daytime running lights found across the Ranger range, though it continues to use halogen bulbs for the turning signals - which is cheap. Below the grille, rated tow hooks and a steel bash plate are included, offering additional protection for off-road excursions.

The side profile of the Tremor highlights its wider track and increased ride height, both of which are achieved through the use of 17-inch matte black alloy wheels paired with General Grabber All-Terrain tyres, and an upgraded suspension system. These modifications make the Tremor 30mm wider and provide an additional 27mm of ground clearance, bringing it to a total of 261mm.

This increase in height and width enhances its off-road capability and gives it a more commanding presence on the road. Functional side vents assist with engine cooling, while the blacked-out mirror caps, door handles, and long-legged black sports bars — unique to the Tremor — contribute to the overall rugged appearance. Additionally, the cast aluminium side steps provide durability for off-road use.

At the rear, the Tremor continues with partially LED taillights similar to the Sport trim, while still utilising halogen bulbs in some areas.

The tailgate features bold Ranger lettering and Tremor badging, identifying its special edition status.

With a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, the Tremor is equipped to handle both off-road adventures and practical tasks, though the inclusion of halogen bulbs at this price is rather dissapointing.

What’s the interior like of the Ford Ranger Tremor?

The front interior of the 2025 Ford Ranger Tremor strikes a balance between rugged utility and modern functionality. As you step inside, the first thing that grabs your attention is the unique seating. The Tremor features vinyl-trimmed seats embossed with the Tremor logo, designed for all-weather durability.

These seats are water-resistant, which is handy if your adventures tend to get a bit messy. Comfort-wise, they’re supportive enough for long drives, with six-way manual adjustment and lumbar support. However, the lack of adjustable under-thigh support might leave some drivers wishing for a bit more customisation.

Around the cabin, Ford hasn’t strayed far from the utilitarian theme. The dashboard and doors are lined with hard, scratchy plastics—durable and easy to clean, but not exactly what you’d call luxurious.

For a ute that’s built to take on tough conditions, it makes sense, but it does remind you that this is a vehicle designed more for function than form. On the plus side, key touchpoints like the armrests and the leather-wrapped steering wheel are softer, providing a bit of relief from the otherwise tough materials.

The steering wheel itself is well-designed, offering a comfortable grip and easy access to essential controls. Behind it, you’ll find a digital instrument cluster—a nice touch that you don’t always see in utes at this price point.

It’s customisable, so you can choose the information you want to see, whether it’s navigation, trip details, or off-road telemetry.

The centrepiece of the front interior is Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system. The screen isn’t the largest in the Ranger lineup, but it’s clear, responsive, and user-friendly.

It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making smartphone integration seamless. While the system is generally easy to use, it’s worth noting that some of the air conditioning controls are integrated into the screen. Thankfully, Ford has kept physical buttons for the main functions, which is a relief when you’re on the move and don’t want to dig through menus to change the temperature.

One of the standout features in the Tremor is its off-road tech. The infotainment screen includes an off-road display mode, giving you access to various data points and camera views.

This is particularly useful when navigating challenging terrain. Additionally, the Tremor comes with exclusive driving modes, including Trail Turn Assist, which tightens your turning radius by locking the inside rear wheel—a feature that’s great for tight off-road trails.

Storage in the front is practical, with a good-sized glovebox, decent cupholders, and a rubberised tray for your phone, complete with wireless charging.

However, the tray isn’t as grippy as it could be, so your phone might slide around a bit. The centre console offers plenty of storage space, and there’s a handy dash-top shelf for smaller items, though it’s not rubberised, so it’s best to avoid putting anything too heavy up there.

Overall, the front interior of the Ranger Tremor is built with practicality in mind. It’s not the most luxurious space, but it’s functional and well-equipped for the type of off-road adventures this ute is designed for.

Just keep in mind that the emphasis here is on durability and utility, which might mean compromising on some of the softer touches found in more comfort-focused vehicles.

What about back seats?

The back seats of the 2025 Ford Ranger Tremor are practical but lean towards the utilitarian side.

Legroom and headroom are decent, offering enough space for adults to sit comfortably. The vinyl-trimmed seats, while durable and easy to clean, aren’t the most plush, reflecting the Tremor’s rugged focus.

Notable features include rear air vents and a 12-volt socket, though the absence of USB ports might be missed on longer trips unless you use a 12v adaptor.

What’s tub space like in the Ford Ranger Tremor?

The tub space in the 2025 Ford Ranger Tremor is designed with versatility in mind. It offers a generous 1547mm length and 1584mm width, with 1224mm between the wheel arches, and a 529mm depth, providing plenty of room for various types of loads.

The Tremor’s tub also comes equipped with a bed liner to protect against scratches and dings. Additionally, it features moveable tie-down points for securing cargo and a 12V socket for powering tools or accessories on the go.

The light tailgate is aided by a torsion bar, making opening the tub easier, especially for kids.

The Ford Ranger Tremor retains its 3.5 tonne braked towing capacity despite the new damper setup, and has a payload of 933kg.

What’s under the bonnet of the 2025 Ford Ranger Tremor?

Under the bonnet of the 2025 Ford Ranger Tremor, you’ll find a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine, producing 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque, compliant with Euro 6 emissions standards and requiring AdBlue diesel exhaust additive.

Ford still sells the regular 2.0L bi-turbo engine with 154Kw of power and 500Nm of torque across the rest of its range, however Ford says this engine in the Tremor and Wildtrak X is Euro 6 compliant as it is sold in some overseas markets too that require this compliance.

The Tremor adopts the permanent four-wheel-drive system from the Wildtrak X and V6 Ranger variants, including a 4A (auto) mode that allows it to operate in 4WD on sealed surfaces. This is a key differentiator from the regular Sport Bi-Turbo, which features a part-time 4WD system.

Interestingly, the recently announced 2025 Ford Everest Tremor, which will be a permanent addition to Ford’s lineup, is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 engine, delivering 184kW of power and 600Nm of torque, highlighting a different approach in powertrain selection between these two Tremor models.

How does the Ford Ranger Tremor Drive?

The 2024 Ford Ranger Tremor delivers a unique on-road driving experience, influenced heavily by its off-road enhancements.

Starting with the powertrain, the 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine generates 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque, channeled through a 10-speed automatic transmission.

This combination delivers smooth power, but the engine feels a bit less responsive compared to the non-Euro 6 compliant 4-cylinder Bi-Turbo and V6 options found in other Ranger models. The adjustments made to meet Euro 6 emissions standards have slightly reduced the engine's output, leading to a noticeable difference in throttle response.

In fact, I timed the 0-100km/h sprint in a slow 13.3 seconds. For comparison, a base-model bi-turbo XL dual cab 4x4 we recently reviewed achieved the same time in 9.5 seconds. That engine was the non-Euro 6 compliant version with 154kW.

On the road, the Tremor's suspension setup is immediately noticeable. The upgraded Bilstein position-sensitive dampers, along with the increased 27mm ground clearance, give the vehicle a more elevated stance and a firmer ride.

This higher ground clearance and wider track, shared with the Wildtrak X, contribute to a more commanding presence on the road. However, the ride can feel a bit stiffer compared to the regular Sport variant, particularly on rougher urban roads where the firmer suspension can translate more of the road’s imperfections into the cabin.

Steering in the Ranger Tremor is light and easy, typical of a ute, but with the added benefit of the 4A (auto) mode from the permanent four-wheel-drive system, it provides better stability and control, especially in wet or slippery conditions.

This system allows the vehicle to automatically distribute power between the front and rear wheels, improving traction without requiring manual input from the driver. This feature is particularly useful when transitioning between different road surfaces, such as moving from asphalt to gravel.

Despite the enhancements for off-road use, the Tremor’s on-road handling remains composed. The vehicle feels stable through corners, thanks to its wider track, though there is some body roll, which is expected in a ute of this size and height.

The 10-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, with gear changes being almost imperceptible under normal driving conditions. However, the engine can feel strained under heavy acceleration, particularly when overtaking at highway speeds, where the bi-turbo setup doesn’t deliver the same punch as the V6.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Ranger Tremor averages around 10.2 litres per 100 kilometres during highway driving in our testing, which is relatively high for a four-cylinder engine. This is partly due to the vehicle’s weight and the extra demands placed on the engine by the off-road enhancements.

It’s worth noting that this figure is comparable to what you might expect from the more powerful V6 engines in the Ranger lineup, making the bi-turbo’s advantage less clear in real-world driving conditions.

Noise levels inside the cabin are well-controlled at lower speeds, but as with many utes, the engine noise becomes more prominent under hard acceleration.

The higher revs required by the bi-turbo engine can result in a noticeable drone, which might be a downside for those who prefer a quieter cabin during longer drives.

Overall, the 2024 Ford Ranger Tremor provides a solid on-road driving experience, with the permanent 4WD system and upgraded suspension offering benefits in terms of stability and control. However, the firmer ride and the engine’s slightly reduced responsiveness might be drawbacks for those who prioritise on-road comfort and performance.

How does the Ford Ranger Tremor Perform Off-Road?

The Ford Ranger Tremor stands out in the Ranger lineup with its suite of off-road enhancements, making it a compelling option for those looking to tackle challenging terrains.

While it's based on the mid-spec Sport trim, the Tremor brings substantial upgrades that position it closer to the highly-capable Ranger Raptor, without quite reaching the same extreme levels.

One of the key features that set the Tremor apart is the Trail Turn Assist, a system designed to improve the vehicle's manoeuvrability on tight trails. This feature is particularly useful in off-road scenarios where space is limited.

By locking the inside rear wheel and allowing the front wheels to pivot more sharply, Trail Turn Assist reduces the turning radius by up to 25%. This is a significant advantage when navigating through narrow, winding paths or trying to make a tight turn on a rocky incline.

The Tremor also comes equipped with multiple drive modes tailored to various off-road conditions. These modes—Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl—optimise the vehicle's throttle response, transmission shifts, and traction control settings to suit the terrain.

Whether you're driving through loose sand or crawling over rocky obstacles, the Tremor's drive modes ensure that the vehicle remains composed and capable.

Additionally, the Tremor features an advanced off-road camera system, which provides a clear view of the terrain ahead, as well as a 360-degree view of the vehicle's surroundings. This is particularly useful when navigating over rough terrain, where visibility can be limited.

The system allows drivers to spot obstacles early and choose the best path forward, reducing the risk of damage to the vehicle or getting stuck.

A critical component of the Tremor's off-road capability is its locking rear differential. This feature ensures that both rear wheels receive equal torque, regardless of traction conditions. When engaged, the locking differential improves the vehicle's ability to climb over obstacles and maintain momentum on uneven surfaces.

Combined with the Tremor's wider 1650mm track and 261mm of ground clearance, the locking differential enhances the vehicle's stability and off-road performance.

In terms of overall off-road performance, the Tremor is no slouch. With a 32-degree approach angle, a 27-degree departure angle, and a 24-degree ramp breakover angle, the Tremor is well-equipped to handle steep inclines and declines.

While it doesn't quite match the Ranger Raptor's 32-degree approach, 27-degree departure, and 25-degree ramp breakover angles, the differences are minimal and unlikely to be noticeable in most real-world scenarios.

The Tremor also features an 800mm wading depth, which is on par with the Ranger Sport and just shy of the Raptor's 850mm capability. This makes it more than capable of handling deep water crossings and muddy trails. The wider track and higher ground clearance further contribute to its stability and off-road prowess.

In summary, the Ford Ranger Tremor is a robust off-road machine that offers a balance of capability and practicality. While it may not reach the extreme heights of the Ranger Raptor, it provides a highly capable alternative for those who want a serious off-roader without going to the top of the range.

Whether you're navigating tight trails, tackling rocky terrain, or fording water, the Tremor is well-equipped to handle it all with confidence.

Is the Ford Ranger Tremor safe?

The Ford Ranger Tremor, like other variants in the Ranger lineup, except for the Raptor, carries a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, applicable to models introduced in Australia and New Zealand from July 2022 onwards.

Here’s a list of safety features included with the 2024 Ford Ranger Tremor:

  • Centre airbag (for added protection in side impact crashes)
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) - Car-to-Car, Vulnerable Road User, and Junction Assist
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK)

How much does it cost to run the Ford Ranger Tremor?

The Ford Ranger Tremor comes with a 5 year, unlimited kilometer warranty.

This warranty of course extends to the mechanical upgrades of the Tremor, like the Bilstein dampers, which is one of the benefits of not DIY’ing your own new set of suspension.

A pre-paid service plan can be purchased covering the first four general services up to 4 years or 60,000kms.

This costs $1,385 in total, or $346.25 per service.

Final thoughts on the Ford Ranger Tremor

The 2025 Ford Ranger Tremor is a well-rounded ute that offers solid off-road capability without compromising everyday usability.

It’s based on the mid-spec Sport trim but brings significant off-road enhancements like Bilstein dampers, a wider track, and increased ground clearance, making it a competent choice for adventure seekers.

While the engine’s performance is slightly dulled by Euro 6 compliance, the Tremor still provides enough power for most driving scenarios.

On-road, it handles well, although the firmer ride might not suit everyone. Inside, the cabin prioritises durability with practical features like water-resistant seats, though the hard plastics remind you of its rugged focus.

With a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and a comprehensive suite of safety features, the Tremor is both capable and secure.

It’s a limited edition worth considering if you’re looking for a ute that’s ready to tackle tough terrains straight from the factory, offering a unique balance of off-road prowess and daily practicality.
