2026 GWM ORA 5 SUV: Australian Pricing and Specifications Confirmed
GWM launches the ORA 5 SUV from $33,990 driveaway, featuring 430km range and local tuning to compete in Australia's growing EV market.
GWM has officially revealed the all-new ORA 5 SUV at the Melbourne Motor Show, marking a major step in the brand’s New Energy Vehicle strategy.
The small SUV is scheduled to arrive in local showrooms from June 2026.
This new addition is designed to lead an expanded ORA lineup, bringing a larger footprint and increased capability to the nameplate.
Launch pricing for the ORA 5 SUV starts at $33,990 driveaway, positioning it as one of the cheapest new EVs you can buy.
The vehicle is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 150kW and 260Nm.
Energy is supplied by a 58.3kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery manufactured by SVOLT.
The system supports a driving range of approximately 430km according to overseas WLTC testing standards.
Charging is supported by DC fast-charging at up to 120kW, enabling a 30 to 80 per cent recharge in approximately 20 minutes.
Additionally, the vehicle features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality with a 6kW external power discharge capacity.
The ORA 5 SUV features a larger footprint than the existing ORA hatch, with a length of 4,471mm and a 2,720mm wheelbase.
Its exterior design evolved from the brand's signature language, featuring water drop-inspired LED headlights and a daybreak-inspired rear light bar.
Inside, the cabin is centred around the Coffee OS intelligent cockpit and a 14.6-inch central display.
Practicality is a primary focus, offering 362 litres of boot capacity and a minimalist layout featuring soft-touch materials.
To ensure the vehicle meets local expectations, chassis specialist Rob Trubiani provided engineering input to refine steering and handling for Australian road conditions.
The pricing strategy for the ORA 5 SUV is designed to compete directly within the high-growth small electric SUV segment.
With a $33,990 driveaway entry price, the ORA 5 significantly undercuts the MG S5 and BYD Atto 3.
It is also positioned below other new competitors such as the Jaecoo J5 EV, which is available for $35,990 plus on-roads.
This competitive positioning reinforces GWM's ambition to become a top-five brand in the Australian market while capitalising on New Vehicle Efficiency Standards.
The ORA 5 SUV will be available in five exterior colours with two interior themes.
