Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited has introduced the updated Outlander PHEV, featuring a series of technical enhancements including a higher capacity battery and increased power output.

Local engineers have also implemented a suspension and steering package specifically tuned for Australian road conditions.

Pricing for the new range starts at $58,990 for the entry-level ES and extends to $74,490 for the flagship Exceed Tourer.

The heart of the update is a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired with two electric motors.

Total system output is rated at 221kW, providing improved acceleration compared to the previous model.

This setup delivers an electric driving range of 86km (WLTP).

When measured against less stringent NEDC standards, the electric range is 103 kilometres, which is an increase from the 84 kilometres claimed by the outgoing version.

According to the manufacturer, the 2.4-litre petrol engine has been refined to improve fuel consumption to 1.2L/100km on the NEDC combined cycle.

The updated model range sees price increases across the board compared to outgoing MSRP figures.

For example, the entry-level ES has risen from $57,290 to $58,990, while the Exceed Tourer has increased from $71,790 to $74,490.

The new Outlander PHEV enters a competitive landscape with several mid-size electrified rivals currently priced under the $60,000 mark.

The BYD Sealion 6 range is positioned lower, starting at $42,990 for the Essential and reaching $52,990 for the Premium Extended.

Toyota's recently released 2026 RAV4 PHEV starts at $58,840 for the 2WD XSE, though it reaches $66,340 for the GR Sport AWD.

Meanwhile, GWM has recently reduced the Haval H6 Ultra AWD PHEV price to $43,990 driveaway as part of a limited retail campaign.

Drivers can select from four dedicated drive modes including Normal, EV priority, Save, and Charge.

A new Innovative Pedal Operation mode allows the driver to accelerate and decelerate primarily using the accelerator pedal.

There are six levels of adjustable regenerative braking available via steering-wheel paddles.

To improve ride quality, the front and rear shock absorbers have been recalibrated.

The steering system has also been adjusted, with the goal of providing better on-centre feel and a more linear response during cornering.

The exterior receives new front and rear bumper designs along with updated lower garnishes for better aerodynamics.

Lighting has been modernised to include LED rear turn and reverse lamps.

Inside the cabin, the centre console has been redesigned for better ergonomics and the central armrest storage has increased by 45 per cent.

Second-row passengers benefit from new seat padding and a longer seat back for better support.

The vehicle is covered by a 10-year manufacturer warranty and a separate eight-year, 160,000km warranty for the drive battery.
