2027 Geely Starray EM-i Extended Range Brings 136km EV Range Under $42K
Geely Australia has added a larger battery to the Starray EM-i Inspire, lifting WLTP electric range to 136km from $41,490 before on-road costs.
Geely Auto Australia has confirmed a longer-range version of its Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV for Australia, with the updated Inspire grade gaining a larger battery and a $41,490 MSRP before on-road costs.
The 2027 Geely Starray EM-i Inspire Extended Range replaces the current Inspire’s 18.4kWh battery with a 29.8kWh lithium iron phosphate pack.
That change lifts WLTP electric-only range from 83km to 136km, while total combined WLTP driving range rises from 943km to 996km.
It also gives the Starray EM-i a longer electric-only claim than several lower-priced plug-in hybrid SUVs, while keeping the flagship grade below $42,000 before on-road costs.
The entry Starray EM-i Complete continues with the existing 18.4kWh battery, 83km WLTP electric range and $37,490 MSRP before on-road costs.
Geely says DC charging capacity for the larger-battery Inspire has increased from 30kW to 60kW, enabling a claimed 30 to 80 per cent charge time of 16 minutes.
The larger battery adds $1500 to the Inspire grade compared with the outgoing $39,990 Inspire, while the Complete grade’s price is unchanged.
New MY27 equipment additions include a five-metre Mode 2 charging cable, towing preparation and trailer stability assist.
The Inspire grade also gains a massage function for the front seats.
The Starray EM-i continues to use a front-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid system with a 160kW and 262Nm electric motor paired with a 73kW and 125Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine.
Fuel consumption is listed at 2.4L/100km WLTP for the Complete and 1.5L/100km WLTP for the Inspire Extended Range.
Geely says the 29.8kWh battery was previously used in the Starray EM-i during its Guinness World Record Sydney to Melbourne coastal drive attempt, where the test vehicle averaged 3.83L/100km according to the company.
For context, the 2026 BYD Sealion 5 starts from $33,990 before on-road costs and offers up to 100km of claimed NEDC electric range in Premium form.
The 2026 Chery Tiggo 7 SHS starts from $39,990 drive-away with a claimed 93km NEDC electric range.
The 2026 GWM Haval H6 Lux PHEV is currently listed at $40,990 drive-away, with about 90km of electric range cited for the plug-in hybrid version.
CarSauce previously covered the Starray EM-i’s original local pricing, when the model launched as one of Australia’s cheaper plug-in hybrid SUVs.
The updated Starray EM-i is scheduled to arrive in Australian dealerships for customer deliveries from late May 2026.
