Avatr T09: Chinese Luxury Flagship Headed for Australia in 2028
Avatr’s six-seat T09 flagship is earmarked for Australia in 2028, with Chinese specifications revealing a sizeable plug-in hybrid SUV.
The Avatr T09 is headed for Australia, with the six-seat luxury SUV earmarked for a 2028 arrival as the Chinese brand expands beyond its initial local launch.
Speaking with CarSauce, Changan Group Australia Head of Brand and Marketing Andrew Haurissa indicated the flagship was included in the company’s Australian product plans.

Asked whether the 2028 expansion would include the T09 being presented at the event, Haurissa replied: “Yep. Yep. I think that’s the indication that we’re getting right now.”
Australian pricing, powertrains and equipment remain unannounced, but publicly available Chinese specifications provide an early indication of the vehicle’s size and capabilities.
Chinese regulatory filings list the T09 at 5285mm long, 2025mm wide and either 1810mm or 1820mm tall, depending on specification, with a 3150mm wheelbase and seating for six.
Two plug-in hybrid powertrains are listed, both featuring electric motors driving the front and rear wheels.
The first combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine rated at 110kW with a 180kW front motor and a 310kW rear motor.
The second uses a 155kW 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, a 180kW front motor and two rear motors producing up to 225kW each.
Those are individual component outputs, rather than a confirmed combined system output.
Listed kerb weights range from 2880kg to 3035kg, while both powertrain configurations have a declared maximum speed of 220km/h.
The filings also identify 21- and 22-inch wheel options.
Chinese specifications additionally identify a 71.24kWh CATL battery, with electric-only range figures of 300km, 320km or 330km under the WLTC test cycle, depending on configuration.
Those figures are not confirmed Australian range ratings.
The disclosed powertrains are plug-in hybrids, with no fully electric version confirmed in the material available so far.
The vehicle presented in Paris is described in Avatr’s accompanying press release as the T09 concept version, so its display equipment should not be treated as the final Australian specification.
Previously, Avatr had confirmed only the 07L electric SUV for Australia, with pre-orders scheduled to open before the end of 2026 and first customer deliveries targeted for the first half of 2027.
During the same interview, Haurissa also confirmed the 06T wagon would arrive in the second half of 2027.
The T09 would form part of the next stage of the Australian rollout, with Avatr expecting four or five models in total by the end of 2028.
Asked whether that range size was anticipated, Haurissa responded: “Most definitely.”
When pressed to nominate five models, he clarified: “Four to five.”
That would mean another two or three vehicles beyond the 07L and 06T, with the T09 among the planned additions.
However, the final product selection still requires coordination with other right-hand-drive markets, and Avatr is not committing to bring every future global model to Australia.
“We want to make sure that it’s factual before we announce anything for the right-hand-drive market,” Haurissa said.
Potential new generations of the Avatr 11 and 12 were also discussed as vehicles the Australian operation would pursue, but neither nameplate was confirmed for local sale.
