Geely EX2 Hits One Million Global Sales in Just Two Years
Geely's EX2 city EV has passed one million global sales in just two years. Here's how it got there, plus Australian pricing and how it compares with rivals.
Geely's EX2 city EV has passed one million cumulative global sales, just 24 months after it first went on sale. Geely says that works out to roughly one EX2 sold every minute worldwide.
The car is sold as the E2 in some markets, and the million figure counts global sales across every market, not Australian sales alone.

How fast the EX2 got to a million
The EX2 first launched on 9 October 2024. Geely says it went on to hit a string of global sales milestones:
- 10,000 units in 16 days
- 200,000 units in just over 200 days
- 600,000 units on day 536
- 800,000 units by July 2026
- One million units in early October 2026, exactly 24 months after launch
Global sales in 2025 alone came to 465,775 units. Citing IHS Markit, Geely says that made the EX2 the world's best-selling car in the A and B segments, and China's best-selling car across all segments. October 2026 brought another 71,337 sales worldwide.
Where it sells
As of October 2026, the EX2 (E2) is sold in more than 30 markets across Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East. Citing local industry data, Geely says it has:
- Claimed Australia's top-selling passenger car position for two consecutive months
- Been the No.1 EV in South Africa
- Topped Jordan's BEV rankings for three consecutive months
- Placed in Mexico's top two BEVs for August and September 2026
Geely didn't give Australian sales numbers in the release.
What makes the EX2 tick
Geely calls the EX2 a Smart Space Urban Car. In September 2026 it became one of the first small cars to earn five stars under both the 2026 Euro NCAP and 2026 ANCAP protocols. It has a reinforced cage body, seven airbags and the Geely Battery Safety System.
Unlike most of its rivals, the EX2 is rear-wheel drive. It also gets multi-link rear suspension and a tight 4.95-metre turning circle. An 11-in-1 electric drive unit frees up room for five proper seats and a 70-litre frunk. The Flyme Auto cockpit and a 540-degree transparent chassis camera view round it out.
Australian pricing and specs
Geely Australia sells the EX2 in two grades:
- EX2 Complete: $26,490 plus on-road costs. 60kW/150Nm, 35.3kWh LFP battery, 252km WLTP range, 60kW DC charging
- EX2 Inspire: $30,990 plus on-road costs. 85kW/150Nm, 47.1kWh LFP battery, 345km WLTP range, 80kW DC charging
For Victorian private buyers, that works out to about $29,807 and $34,501 drive-away.
How it stacks up against its rivals
The EX2 sits right in the busiest part of Australia's cheap-EV market:
- BYD Atto 1: The Essential is $19,990 drive-away under BYD's current campaign, with 220km WLTP range, front-wheel drive and four seats. The Premium is $27,990 plus on-roads, with 310km WLTP range
- BYD Dolphin Essential: $28,888 drive-away under BYD's campaign, with a 44.9kWh battery, 340km WLTP range and front-wheel drive
- MG4 EV Urban Essence 43: $29,990 drive-away including MG's $2,000 cashback to 31 December, with 316km WLTP range. The Essence 54 is $32,990 drive-away with cashback, with 405km WLTP range
BYD's campaign prices apply to retail orders placed between 15 September and 15 December 2026 and delivered by 31 December.
The EX2 doesn't win on range for the money against the Dolphin or the MG4 Urban. Its pitch is a rear-drive layout, five-star safety and a roomy five-seat cabin at a sub-$31,000 list price.
What it means
For a model that's only two years old, one million global sales is a big number. It shows how hard Chinese brands are pushing affordable EVs into global markets. Geely says the milestone lays the groundwork for the EX2's next phase of international expansion.
