Insane Genesis GV90 Flagship Electric SUV Revealed With 490kW And Coach Doors
Genesis has revealed the GV90 flagship electric SUV with a 123.5kWh battery, 490kW dual-motor AWD and Neolun coach doors.
Genesis has revealed the GV90, its first full-size flagship electric SUV, as the Korean luxury brand moves further into territory traditionally held by established German luxury marques.
Unveiled in San Francisco, the Genesis GV90 is the production version of the Neolun concept shown in 2024 and will be offered in two main forms: GV90 and GV90 Neolun.
The standard Genesis GV90 uses conventional swing doors, while the Genesis GV90 Neolun adopts the Neolun Arch Gate, a coach-door arrangement with hidden B-pillars designed to create a larger opening for entry and exit.
Genesis says the GV90 Neolun’s rear doors use a dual-motion hinge, first moving slightly outward before rotating open, allowing them to operate independently of the front doors.
The brand says structural rigidity is maintained through high-strength dual steel beams, reinforced door and body structures, and a concealed roll-cage-style passenger cell.
Although pricing has not yet been revealed, CarSauce understands the GV90 range will top out at around $250,000 AUD before on-road costs.
The GV90 sits on Genesis’ eMP electric platform for flagship models and measures 5285mm long, 2030mm wide and up to 1825mm tall on 24-inch wheels, with a 3245mm wheelbase.
Power comes from dual electric motors producing a combined 490kW and 800Nm, with all-wheel drive and electronic limited-slip differentials on both the front and rear axles.
Genesis claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds for the GV90 and 5.3 seconds for the GV90 Neolun, with both listed at a 240km/h top speed.
A 123.5kWh battery is fitted, with Genesis quoting an estimated driving range of around 500km for the seven-seat GV90.
The battery can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes when connected to a 350kW fast charger.
The flagship SUV also uses multi-chamber air suspension, monotube dual-valve electronically controlled dampers, rear-wheel steering with up to five degrees of rear-wheel angle, and a high-capacity braking package.
Genesis has previously pushed its electric performance credentials with models such as the GV60 Magma, though the GV90 is positioned around luxury SUV comfort rather than outright performance branding.
Safety equipment includes 12 airbags, including what Genesis describes as the world’s first roof airbag, designed to deploy across the roof glass during severe rollover events.
The GV90 also features an in-cabin monitoring system, expanded curtain airbag coverage for the third row, seat cushion airbags, and a reinforced body structure with aluminium castings and extrusions used through the underbody.
Battery safety measures include thermal runaway protection, cell separation to reduce heat transfer, and a cloud-based battery management system designed to detect potential faults.
Inside, the GV90 moves further into chauffeur-style luxury, particularly in the GV90 Neolun Executive Suite four-seat configuration.
The Neolun can be fitted with 180-degree swivelling front seats for use while parked, allowing the front occupants to face the second row.
Executive Suite versions add features such as wood veneer flooring with radiant heating inspired by Korean ondol underfloor heating, rear tables, a refrigerator, roll blinds, a comfort partition and a Smart Vision Roof with six-zone transparency control.
Technology includes a New Power Control System that removes the traditional start button, a 23.6-inch OLED display that can rise into a 24.6-inch cinematic display when parked, and a 25-inch head-up display in place of a conventional instrument cluster.
The GV90 also introduces Pleos Connect, Hyundai Motor Group’s next-generation infotainment platform based on Android Automotive OS, with app downloads through the Pleos App Market and a generative AI assistant called Gleo AI.
Other cabin equipment includes a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos, ambient lighting, massage seats with 15 air cells and pulse vibration, a heated windshield, and radiant heat warmers in selected trim areas.
Genesis will also offer a GV90 Neolun First Edition, limited to 222 units worldwide, with two-tone paint, body-colour 24-inch forged wheels, wool cashmere interior trim and dedicated First Edition branding.
“GV90 is not simply a new vehicle, but a new vision for luxury mobility that brings together inspiring design, AI-powered software and connectivity, and industry-leading safety,” said Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group.
José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, said the GV90 “opens a new chapter for Genesis” and represents the brand’s vision for future luxury mobility.
Luc Donckerwolke, President and Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, said the GV90 was inspired by Korean moon jar design principles, with an emphasis on restraint and proportion.
Australian launch timing and pricing for the Genesis GV90 are yet to be detailed.
