Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01 in New York, marking the brand’s shift into a new electric era with a luxury four-door GT.

Australian pricing will begin from approximately $300,000 plus on-road costs, with order opening details due for 2027 and first client delivery timing still to be detailed.

The Type 01 is designed, engineered and built in the UK, and is the first production Jaguar developed on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture.

Jaguar describes it as the most powerful and technologically advanced car in its history, with more than 1,000PS from an 850-volt electrical architecture.

That output equates to about 735kW, placing the Type 01 well above any previous production Jaguar for power.

The Type 01 has a claimed 643-kilometre EPA range and can add 321 kilometres of range in 13 minutes when connected to 350kW charging.

Its name is intended to link Jaguar’s past and future, with “Type” referencing earlier Jaguar nameplates, “0” representing zero tailpipe emissions, and “1” marking the first model in a new generation.

The reveal follows Jaguar’s move away from combustion sports cars, including the limited-run F-TYPE ZP Edition.

The Type 01 uses a long-bonnet, low-roof GT shape and a dedicated EV platform rather than adapting an existing combustion architecture.

Jaguar says the car draws a clear lineage from models including the E-type and XJS.

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar, said the Type 01 “distils the essence of Jaguar into a luxury grand tourer for a new era”.

“Type 01 is the foundation of this British brand, one that makes no compromise between design and engineering in our quest to create objects of desire, just as it was in the days of the E-type and XJS,” Mr Glover said.

More Australian timing detail is expected closer to the Type 01’s 2027 order opening.
