KGM Torres EVX Missing Advertised Centre Airbag, ANCAP Warns
ANCAP says KGM Torres EVX SUVs sold in Australia and New Zealand are missing an advertised centre airbag, affecting about 100 vehicles.
ANCAP has widened its consumer safety advice for KGM, confirming the KGM Torres EVX has also been supplied to customers without an advertised centre airbag.
The safety body says the battery-electric mid-size SUV was marketed with eight airbags, including a centre airbag described as a “front row far-side” or “front seat centre airbag”.
ANCAP says vehicles supplied since the Torres EVX launched in New Zealand in March 2024 and Australia in October 2025 are fitted with seven airbags instead.
The advice follows ANCAP’s warning over the KGM Musso EV dual-cab ute, which was found to be missing advertised centre and driver knee airbags.
Unlike the KGM Musso EV issue, which applies to Australian-supplied vehicles, the Torres EVX advice covers both Australia and New Zealand.
A centre airbag is generally positioned inboard within the driver’s seat back and is intended to reduce injury in side-impact crashes.
ANCAP says the omission may have an effect on occupant safety in side-impact crashes.
About 100 KGM Torres EVX vehicles are affected across both markets, including approximately 33 vehicles sold in Australia to the end of July 2026 based on VFACTS data and 70 sold in New Zealand based on NZ MIA figures.
That makes the Australian Torres EVX tally small in volume terms, though the issue comes as new-car sales data continues to show growing buyer interest in electrified vehicles.
