New Chinese Auto Brand 'Forthing' Launches in Australia This June
Forthing, a Dongfeng Motor Group EV and hybrid brand, launches in Australia in June 2026 with the Taikon 5 SUV, distributed by Ateco.
The Chinese automotive brand Forthing has confirmed it will launch in the Australian market in June 2026.
Forthing operates as a passenger vehicle brand under Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd., which was founded in 1954 and entered the automotive manufacturing sector in 1969.
The brand produces a wide range of models, including sedans, MPVs, and SUVs, available with multiple powertrain options, including pure electric, hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and range-extending electric vehicle (REEV) technology.
The initial Australian launch will feature the Taikon 5 mid-size SUV, which is marketed as the 'Friday' in China.
The Taikon 5 will be offered with both Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and REEV powertrain options.
According to WLTP testing protocols, the REEV variant provides a battery-only range of 170km.
This WLTP figure is expected to outclass the electric-only range of competitors like the Leapmotor C10 REEV (170km) and Haval H6 GT PHEV (180km), which are measured under the older and less stringent NEDC standard.
When utilising both the battery and the petrol engine, the Taikon 5's combined maximum range extends to 1050km.
Forthing will be brought into the country by the Ateco Group, serving as the official independent distributor for the local market.
Operating as an independent distributor means Ateco purchases the vehicles from the manufacturer and manages all local operations, including sales, parts, and marketing.
The Ateco Group currently imports and distributes several other automotive brands in Australia, including Renault, Maserati, LDV, and locally remanufactured RAM Trucks.
Shaun Garrard has been appointed as the National Manager of Forthing in Australia, bringing experience from Chinese automakers and emerging brands within the Ateco Group.
Further details regarding local pricing, specifications, and additional models will be announced closer to the vehicles arriving in showrooms.
