Nissan has unveiled the all-new Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid in the Philippines, marking the latest step in its plan to export China-developed models to other markets.

Shown at the 10th Philippine International Motor Show, the Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid is a China-built electrified pickup that will launch alongside the Primera EV sedan.

Nissan has not confirmed the ute for Australia, but the model points to how the brand could respond to emerging plug-in hybrid ute rivals such as the 2026 BYD Shark 6 and GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV.

The Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid also appears closely related to the Frontier Pro Plug-in Hybrid revealed in China, although Nissan has not confirmed whether the Philippine-market model will carry the same full mechanical specification.

That distinction matters because the Frontier Pro is Nissan’s first electrified pickup and was confirmed earlier for export outside China.

It follows CarSauce’s coverage of the new Navara in Australia, but Nissan has not announced a local launch for the Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid.

Nissan says technical specifications for the Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid and Primera EV will be detailed closer to launch.

For now, the company has described the ute as combining its 4x4 background with electrified performance, with positioning aimed at both work and lifestyle use.

What Nissan has confirmed so far

The Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid forms part of Nissan’s ‘From China’ export strategy, under which China-developed vehicles will be rolled out to selected global markets.

Guillaume Cartier, Chief Performance Officer at Nissan, said China has a dual role for the company.

“As a lead market, China plays a dual role for Nissan, both as a strong market in its own right and a critical source of global competitiveness,” Cartier said.

“This unveiling signal the beginning of our ‘From China’ export strategy, and I am pleased to see these vehicles reaching customers beyond China for the first time.”

Cartier said the models represent “an important step in strengthening our global portfolio and responding more quickly to diverse customer needs”.

The Philippine reveal also included the new Kicks e-POWER and X-Trail e-POWER, both using Nissan’s series-hybrid e-POWER system.

Unlike those e-POWER models, the Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid is a rechargeable hybrid ute, putting it closer in concept to the BYD Shark 6 and GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV.

If the Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid shares major hardware with the Frontier Pro, it would bring Nissan into a ute segment where Chinese brands have moved early.

The BYD Shark 6 range already includes Dynamic, Premium and Performance variants in Australia, with prices running from $55,900 to $62,900 before on-road costs.

Nissan’s challenge will be positioning, timing and market availability, particularly in Australia where diesel dual-cab utes still dominate but electrified alternatives are increasing.

For now, the Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid is confirmed for the Philippines, with broader export plans still to be detailed.
