Peugeot’s Australian distribution is set to change hands after Inchcape Australia and Stellantis mutually agreed to end their local distribution partnership.

The final date for the handover is yet to be confirmed, with the companies to work through a transition period before new arrangements are locked in.

Stellantis has confirmed the Peugeot brand will continue in Australia, while Inchcape will continue supporting existing stock, warranty and servicing during the transition.

"Peugeot has a strong future in Australia, supported by a robust product pipeline and a clear long-term strategy," a Stellantis Australia Spokesperson said.

"We intend to maintain continuity of distribution in Australia and will provide updates as arrangements progress."

"We remain committed to our customers and partners throughout this period and are confident in the brand’s long-term prospects in the Australian market."

Inchcape said the decision forms part of its ongoing portfolio review, with the company continuing to operate in Australia across passenger cars, SUVs, utes and trucks with internal-combustion, hybrid and electric powertrains.

The change comes as Peugeot’s Australian sales continue to sit at a small share of the broader new-car market, despite recent model activity including the latest Peugeot 5008 Hybrid and ongoing electrified product plans.

Peugeot sales fall in 2026

Peugeot sold 53 vehicles in Australia in May 2026, down from 101 in May 2025.

That represents a 47.5 per cent monthly decline, compared with a total new-car market that fell 4.8 per cent over the same month.

Year to date, Peugeot has recorded 373 sales, down 35.0 per cent from 574 at the same point in 2025.

Its market share stands at 0.1 per cent for both May and the year to date.

The broader Australian new-car market has recorded 475,659 sales to the end of May 2026, down 2.2 per cent from 486,302 at the same point last year.

The Partner/E-Partner remains Peugeot’s highest-volume model in Australia so far in 2026, accounting for 161 sales to the end of May.

The 3008/E-3008 is next on 74 sales, while the Expert/E-Expert has recorded 47 sales over the same period.

During the transition, Inchcape says customers will continue to have access to factory-trained technicians, genuine Peugeot parts, ongoing servicing, recall campaigns and diagnostic updates.

Further details on Peugeot’s future Australian distribution structure are expected as Stellantis progresses its local plans.
