Tesla Australia and New Zealand have introduced a new vehicle warranty structure effective immediately.

The manufacturer has moved from its previous 4-year or 80,000 km coverage to a new 5-year standard.

Vehicles intended for private use now receive unlimited kilometre coverage during this five-year period.

This update applies to all new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered from January 1, 2026.

The policy includes retrospective eligibility for customers who took delivery in the first week of the year.

The Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty covers critical components including paint durability and multimedia systems.

Protection against corrosion is also included for the duration of the five-year term.

Tesla has paired the warranty extension with 24/7 roadside assistance across Australia and New Zealand.

Specific limitations apply to vehicles used for commercial purposes. Commercial use includes ridesharing, taxis, rentals, couriers, driving schools, and emergency services.

For these vehicles, the warranty is capped at 5 years or 150,000 km, whichever comes first.

The coverage applies to vehicles used for business or trade at any time during the warranty period.

The existing Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty remains unchanged under this announcement.

Model 3 and Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive variants maintain an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty.

Long Range and Performance variants are covered for 8 years or 192,000 km.

Both tiers guarantee a minimum of 70% battery capacity retention throughout the warranty timeframe.

Tesla Model Y sales reached 1,998 units in December 2025. This represents a 7.4% increase compared to the 1,861 units sold in December 2024.

Annual sales for the Model Y totaled 22,239 units for 2025, up 4.6% from the previous year. In contrast, the Tesla Model 3 recorded 587 sales in December 2025. This figure is a 66.1% decrease from the 1,732 units sold in the same month in 2024.

The Model 3 finished the year with 6,617 total units, reflecting a 61.3% decline compared to 2024.

These local results occur as Tesla recently lost its position as the global leader in total electric vehicle sales to BYD.
