Tesla Model Y Dominates September 2026 EVC Sales As Tesla, Polestar Lift 19.5 Per Cent

Electric Vehicle Council data shows Tesla and Polestar delivered 5,854 battery-electric vehicles in Australia in September 2026, up 19.5 per cent on the same month last year.
The EVC monthly series currently includes Tesla and Polestar only, so it does not represent the full Australian new-vehicle or EV market.

Across the first nine months of 2026, the two brands recorded 43,386 deliveries, up 76.9 per cent from 24,521 over the same period in 2025.
The Tesla Model Y remained the dominant vehicle in the dataset, with 4,476 September deliveries.
That represented about 76 per cent of all Tesla and Polestar vehicles recorded by the EVC for the month.
Tesla delivered 5,654 vehicles in September, up 21.3 per cent year-on-year, while Polestar delivered 200, down 15.3 per cent.
Year to date, Tesla deliveries rose 84.1 per cent to 41,705, while Polestar deliveries fell 10.0 per cent to 1,681.
The three-month average for Tesla and Polestar sales across the September quarter was 6,199 vehicles.
September 2026 EVC sales by model
The Tesla Model 3 recorded 1,178 September deliveries, up 60.1 per cent from September 2025.
Tesla this week announced a new base-model Model 3 sedan priced from less than $46,000 before on-road costs, following recent CarSauce coverage of the cheaper Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive.
Polestar’s strongest model in September was the Polestar 4, with 114 deliveries, followed by the Polestar 2 on 76.

New South Wales led September volume with 2,021 deliveries, followed by Victoria on 1,481 and Queensland on 1,083.
Western Australia recorded 698 deliveries for the month, South Australia recorded 354, the ACT recorded 150, Tasmania recorded 45 and the Northern Territory recorded 22.
On a year-to-date basis, every state and territory recorded growth compared with 2025.
The Northern Territory posted the largest percentage increase at 113.3 per cent, albeit from a smaller base, while Western Australia recorded the smallest increase at 45.7 per cent.
The EVC records these sales at the point of delivery, rather than when orders are placed.
The council also launched its 10th State of EVs report this week with Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen, covering EV sales across vehicle types, charging infrastructure, government policy and industry progress.
