Tesla Sales Up 342% in October as Model Y Passes 39,000 for 2026

Tesla delivered 4,050 cars in Australia in October 2026, up 342 per cent on the same month last year, according to the Electric Vehicle Council's (EVC) latest Vehicle Sales Report. Its Model Y has now passed 39,000 deliveries for the year.

Before getting into the numbers, here's what this data covers. Tesla and Polestar don't report their sales through VFACTS, the industry's official monthly sales figures. They report to the EVC instead, and the EVC report only covers those two brands. So this isn't a total of every EV sold in Australia, and you can't compare these figures directly with brands that report through VFACTS.

October 2026: the headline numbers

Between them, Tesla and Polestar delivered 4,168 battery electric vehicles in October 2026, up from 1,070 in October 2025.

  • Tesla: 4,050, up from 916 (+342 per cent)
  • Polestar: 118, down from 154 (-23 per cent)

The EVC notes that sales are counted when a car is delivered, not when it's ordered. That matters for Tesla in particular, because its deliveries swing a lot from month to month as shipments arrive. Its October total was below September's (5,654) and August's (7,685), according to the report's raw delivery data.

Model Y does most of the work

The Model Y range accounted for 3,105 of Tesla's October deliveries, up from 735 a year earlier. That takes it to 39,035 for the year so far, more than double its 17,972 at the same point in 2025.

By variant, the October Model Y deliveries break down like this:

  • Rear-wheel drive: 1,847
  • Model Y L: 1,010
  • Long Range AWD: 180
  • Performance: 68

The Model 3 delivered 945 cars in October, up from 181. That brings it to 6,720 for the year, up 20 per cent.

Polestar slips

Polestar had a quieter month, with 118 deliveries:

  • Polestar 4: 79, up from 66. It's the brand's best seller, with 1,215 so far this year.
  • Polestar 2: 30
  • Polestar 3: 8, down from 78 a year earlier
  • Polestar 5: 1, its fifth delivery this year

Polestar's 2026 total of 1,799 is 11 per cent behind last year's pace.

Year to date: up 86 per cent

Tesla and Polestar have delivered 47,554 cars between them in 2026, up 86 per cent from 25,591 over the same period in 2025. Tesla's share is 45,755, up 94 per cent.

The EVC says year-to-date deliveries are up in every state and territory, from 42 per cent in Western Australia to 136 per cent in the Northern Territory. In October, New South Wales recorded the most deliveries (1,450), ahead of Victoria (1,308) and Queensland (1,040). Western Australia was the only state where October deliveries fell (101, down from 132).

What this data doesn't tell you

This report only covers Tesla and Polestar, because they're the only carmakers reporting their sales exclusively to the EVC. Brands that report through VFACTS, such as BYD, are counted separately, and their October figures hadn't been released when this report came out. Until they are, there's no complete picture of Australia's October EV market, and these figures shouldn't be read as a ranking of EV brands or a share of the total market.
