Rally-tuned suspension currently limited to Japanese GSR with Australian release unconfirmed

Upgraded Mitsubishi Triton scores Yamaha suspension

An upgraded Mitsubishi Triton will be available in Japanese dealerships from February 19 with new suspension from Yamaha.

Using developments gleaned from its successful off-road racing program, Mitsubishi has installed Yamaha’s Performance Dampers – used in its Triton race ute – with revised settings front and rear, in addition to new body mounts.

These modifications “regulate and absorb deformation and vibrations of the vehicle body while riding” and reduce “up and down shaking when going over bumps and minute vibrations transmitted from the engine.”

It’s currently unclear whether Australian Tritons will receive the upgrades, a MMAL representative telling CarSauce: “We appreciate the effort Mitsubishi is putting into improving the Triton and while we can’t comment directly on the 26MY Triton upgrade in the Japanese market, we will provide information on our local 2026 model year updates in due course, once specification, timing and positioning are finalised.”

In Japan, only the flagship GSR grade is offered, which also scores ‘dark titanium’ door handles and centre console trim for the 2026 Model Year.

The latest Triton’s suspension behaviour has been subject to criticism and Nissan tasked Australian engineering firm Premcar with developing a bespoke tune for the closely related new Navara.

Mitsubishi applied locally developed steering and suspension tunes to the facelifted Outlander, so there is precedent when it comes to the company improving the dynamics of its vehicles.

We’ll bring you further details of the 2026 Mitsubishi Triton range as they become available.
