The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE, a prominent luxury SUV in Australia, is set to receive substantial updates in both design and technology, accompanied by a notable increase in pricing. This refreshed model showcases enhancements across its entire lineup, including mild-hybrid powertrains now standard across the range. With the introduction of the latest 48V mild-hybrid technology, the GLE 450 petrol model sees a power boost of 10kW, while the diesel GLE 300d and GLE 450d gain an additional 18kW and 27kW respectively.
In terms of aesthetics, the 2024 GLE and GLE Coupe range feature new front bumpers, and updated LED headlight and tail light signatures, complemented by new-look alloy wheels. The interior is upgraded with the latest generation of MBUX infotainment, boasting a 12.3-inch touchscreen, compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Enhancements include an improved “Hey Mercedes†voice assistant and interior changes like a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive buttons and chrome dash highlights.
The model range sees a significant price increase, with the entry-level GLE 300d wagon experiencing the largest hike, previously priced at $119,174 plus on-road costs and now listed at $144,900 plus on-road costs. This represents a 45% increase over the past five years. The GLE 450d wagon has also seen a price rise, from $141,670 to $166,900 plus on-road costs. In addition, the top-of-the-range AMG versions have become up to $11,631 dearer.
Despite these price rises, Mercedes-Benz has significantly upgraded the standard equipment list for these models. Standard features now include adaptive LED headlights, a 13-speaker Burmester 590W sound system, panoramic sunroof, head-up display, and the AMG Line exterior package, among others. All non-AMG models now also include a mandatory AMG Line exterior package, and the company has streamlined its options packages for simplicity.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE is offered with two diesel and three petrol engines, all standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Engine options range from a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder in the GLE 300d to a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 in the AMG GLE 63 S models.
