2025 BMW X3 Plug-In Hybrid Joins Expanding Line-Up with New PHEV Variant

BMW Australia is set to introduce the X3 30e xDrive plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in early 2025, adding to its growing range of electrified vehicles. The new X3 30e xDrive joins the X3 20 xDrive and M50 xDrive in BMW's line-up and is one of five plug-in hybrid models offered by BMW in Australia, complementing models such as the X5 xDrive50e and M5 Sedan.

The 2025 model offers a combined system output of 220kW and 450Nm, utilizing BMW’s latest eDrive technology with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor. With a high-voltage battery capable of delivering up to 91 kilometers of electric range (ADR 81/02), the vehicle boasts a 50% improvement over its predecessor.

The X3 30e xDrive’s battery, positioned under the vehicle floor, supports both single-phase and three-phase AC charging, achieving a full recharge in approximately two hours and 15 minutes.

The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, with a top speed of 215 km/h, and can run solely on electric power up to 140 km/h. In terms of efficiency, it achieves a fuel consumption rating of 1.6 litres per 100 km and emits just 38g/km of CO2 (ADR 81/02).

The PHEV also introduces enhancements in proactive energy management, intelligently balancing power between the petrol engine and electric motor based on route and battery status. In HYBRID mode, the petrol engine activates when joining a freeway to provide acceleration while conserving electric power.

Inside, the X3 30e xDrive offers a premium interior, featuring BMW's latest Operating System 9 on a 14.9-inch curved display, paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Standard features include 20-inch M light alloy wheels, adaptive suspension, and a suite of driving aids like the Driving Assistant Professional.

The Comfort Package includes features such as active seat ventilation and sun blinds for rear windows. Optional upgrades are also available, including a premium 21-inch alloy wheel set and BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery.

The X3 30e xDrive is priced at AUD $102,500, with additional packages and single options available for customization. Customers can choose from several exterior finishes, with metallic paint available for an additional cost.

Other variants of the 2025 BMW X3 line-up include the X3 20 xDrive priced at AUD $84,500 and the X3 M50 xDrive at AUD $126,900.
