Tesla has unveiled the redesigned Model Y "Juniper", offering an updated exterior, enhanced efficiency, and a suite of new features. This new generation of Model Y will boast a WLTP claimed range of 551km and a dual-motor all-wheel drive variant.
The exterior redesign focuses on improving aerodynamics and efficiency, with changes spanning from the front bumper to the taillight. The new body castings reduce parts from 70 to 1, enhancing structural integrity and reducing cabin noise. Updated wheels and tyres further contribute to a quieter, smoother ride.
Inside, the Model Y introduces a reimagined cabin with acoustic glass and ventilated seats. Front and rear touchscreens provide seamless control of settings, while a 15.4-inch ultra-responsive touchscreen is the primary interface between driver and car. Rear passengers also get an 8-inch screen for entertainment.
The vehicle retains its expansive cargo capacity of over 2,130 litres, facilitated by power-recline second-row seats. It also features a hands-free trunk that unlocks automatically as the driver approaches. Tesla's suite of over-the-air updates ensures continuous feature enhancements and bug fixes.
For charging, the Model Y offers compatibility with Tesla's extensive Supercharger network, supporting a maximum rate of 250 kW. This allows users to add up to 266 km of range in just 15 minutes.
Safety remains central to the Model Y, with standard features including Forward Collision Warning, Active Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Avoidance. The redesigned body structure and advanced airbags aim to enhance occupant safety in the event of a collision. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving suite will be included as standard, featuring enhanced visibility through front-facing cameras and blind-spot monitoring.
Distinctive new lighting elements include a cross-car lamp that integrates innovative reflective body panel taillights. These design touches further differentiate the Juniper model from its predecessor.
The Model Y is available in two configurations: the Long Range AWD with a 551 km range and 4.3-second 0-100 km/h acceleration, and the Standard Range RWD offering a 466 km range with a 5.9-second 0-100 km/h acceleration. Both variants provide seating for up to five adults and include Tesla’s signature advanced connectivity features.
The Model Y's updated suspension and new interior and exterior design are expected to bring with it an increase in price. Local pricing and delivery details should follow shortly.
