BMW Unveils Eighth Generation 5 Series Sedan Pricing, Specs and In-Car Gaming

The BMW Group has revealed its new eighth generation 5 Series Sedan, introducing in-car gaming, enhanced digital services, and offering a wider range of choices for customers. As with previous iterations, the new 5 Series will come in three variants: the 520i, the i5 eDrive40, and the i5 M60 xDrive. Prices range from $114,900 to $215,900.

The new sedan is powered by BMW Operating System 8.5, which offers a broader spectrum of digital content for information and entertainment, faster function updates, improved data on charging points for electric vehicles, and optimised access to online services. One of the most notable features of this system is the in-car gaming experience, made possible through a collaboration with the AirConsole platform. This feature allows passengers to enjoy games while the vehicle is stationary.

The latest BMW 5 Series also offers enhanced networking and a suite of advanced connected services. The BMW Digital Key and BMW Digital Key Plus, previously available for a limited selection of smartphones, are now compatible with a broader selection, including Samsung Galaxy models. This update allows more customers to experience increased convenience and flexibility.

The new model features 5G digital connectivity as standard, while the Personal eSIM fully integrates the vehicle into the customer's digital ecosystem. To provide an all-immersive vehicle experience, the sedan offers a choice of up to six My Modes. Other highlights include optimised smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the Remote Software Upgrades function, which ensures the vehicle is always equipped with the latest software.

The new 5 Series models boast high-end standard equipment. The most affordable model, the 520i, features 19" M Alloy Wheels, an M Sport Package, an interior trim made of Carbon Fibre, and Harman Kardon Surround Sound, among other features. The premium i5 M60 xDrive variant offers additional features such as 21" M Alloy Wheels, an M Rear Spoiler, and Active Seat Ventilation.

For customers seeking customisation, the eighth generation BMW 5 Series offers a wide variety of paint finishes, upholsteries, and alloy wheels. Non-metallic, metallic, and BMW Individual Metallic paint finishes are available, with costs varying based on the model. Upholstery options range from M Alcantara/Veganza combination to BMW Individual Leather ‘Merino’. The alloy wheels options range from 19-inch M aerodynamic wheels to 21-inch BMW Individual aerodynamic wheels.

The BMW Group has also announced a range of optional equipment packages for the new 5 Series. These include the M Sport package, which comes as standard on 520i and i5 eDrive40 models, and the M Sport Plus and Equipment program, which offer additional enhancements for an extra cost.

Power-wise, the 520i comes with a 2.0L 4-Cyl TwinPower Turbo Petrol engine, while both i5 eDrive40 and i5 M60 xDrive variants use fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology. The electric i5 models also boast impressive electric ranges, with the i5 eDrive40 offering 582km and the i5 M60 xDrive offering 516km according to WLTP figures.

BMW recommends customers contact their nearest BMW dealer for all pricing enquiries. As stated, the prices mentioned above include GST and LCT but exclude on-road costs.
