Technology giant Foxconn – the company that manufactures the iPhone for Apple – is said to be close to a deal with Mitsubishi on electric vehicles.
After weeks of rumours of Foxconn potentially acquiring Nissan – following the collapse of talks between Honda and Nissan – it now appears the Taiwanese technology company is looking to Mitsubishi to collaborate on future battery-powered models, according to Japanese newspaper Kyodo News.

The unconfirmed report claims Mitsubishi could use Foxconn to manufacture its future electric cars – to be sold in Southeast Asia under the Mitsubishi badge.
Foxconn already has its own car brand subsidiary, known as Foxtron, which is a joint venture with Taiwanese carmaker Yulon – a company which has traditionally manufactured Nissan vehicles under licence.

While details have yet to be made public, it’s understood the partnership with Mitsubishi could lead to Foxconn producing its own electric models, leveraging technology from Mitsubishi.
It’s understood Foxconn has wanted to expand into the electric-vehicle segment for several years, while leaning on the expertise of an established manufacturer.
