?The anticipation surrounding the 2025 BMW X3 has been fuelled by new spy photos revealing the vehicle undergoing road tests. BMW continues to update its "X" portfolio, with the latest addition of the X2/iX2 and facelifted X5 and X6, and the X3 is expected to follow suit with a release in 2024.
Spy photos indicate that the next-gen X3, codenamed G45, has potentially grown in size to maintain a clear distinction from the enlarged X1, now measuring 4500 millimetres. The 2025 X3 appears to avoid radical design changes, sticking to a more conservative approach without split headlights or an exaggerated kidney grille. Additionally, the luxury crossover is set to feature door handles flush with the body for a streamlined profile.
Another prototype featuring wider tyres and a quad exhaust system was observed, hinting at the possibility of an M Performance version. This version is likely to shift from the M40i moniker to the M50i suffix, as seen with the X1 M35i and X2 M35i. The M Performance model will also introduce a new taillight design, moving away from the current model's energy sword-like design. In the interest of cost savings, the roof-mounted spoiler seems to have remained unchanged.
The upcoming X3 is expected to be larger than its predecessor, with modern bodywork and an updated version of the previous model's underpinnings. The vehicle is likely to be equipped with the latest iDrive multimedia system, which combines a 12.3-inch driver screen with a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, synonymous with BMW's contemporary models such as the new X5.
Diverse engine options are anticipated, including petrol, hybrid, and diesel. The electric iX3 model is set to be a stand-out with its unique architecture, BMW’s forthcoming 'Neue Klasse' electric-car platform, and distinct styling. The fully electric version is scheduled for release in 2025, alongside an i3 Sedan, both of which are expected to receive a full-on M treatment later this decade.
