During the Beijing International Auto Show 2024, the automotive brand JAECOO introduced two new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the J7 and the J8, as part of its parent company Chery's lineup.
The company, known for its off-road vehicle offerings, presented these models as part of its strategy to enter the electrified vehicle segment.
The newly introduced J7 PHEV features an All Road Drive Intelligent System (ARDIS) and provides a range of drive settings for various terrain conditions.
It has been designed with a focus on aerodynamic efficiency, featuring concealed door handles and 19-inch enclosed wheels that contribute to a reduced drag coefficient.
The J7 PHEV claims an electric-only range of 55 miles and a combined fuel efficiency of 57.6 miles per gallon in hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) mode.
With its hybrid powertrain fully charged and fueled, the vehicle's total range is over 745 miles.
Powering the J7 PHEV is a fifth-generation 1.5 TGDI engine which, according to JAECOO, has a thermal efficiency of 44.5%.
This engine, coupled with a 1DHT150 transmission, delivers a combined output of 347 horsepower and 525 Nm of torque.
The J8 PHEV, which is described as a more advanced hybrid off-road vehicle, shares the same engine as the J7 but integrates it with a different hybrid system. This setup, together with electric motors, provides a higher output of 605 horsepower and 915 Nm of torque.
Both vehicles feature a V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function that allows the car to supply power for external use.
JAECOO suggests that this capability is designed to support outdoor activities away from traditional power sources.
With the unveiling of these models, JAECOO indicates its plans to introduce the vehicles to the Australian market in the second half of 2024, expanding its new energy vehicle offerings.
