Lexus has announced the upcoming release of the LBX, a new compact SUV, scheduled for the first half of 2024. Targeting a younger demographic, the LBX was recently showcased at the Melbourne Cup Carnival. The vehicle's introduction is part of Lexus's strategy to diversify its offerings in the Australian market.
In 2023, Lexus recorded a significant number of vehicle deliveries in Australia, marking a high point in its 33-year history in the country. The LBX is set to join the company's lineup, featuring a 1.5-litre three-cylinder hybrid powertrain that generates 100kW. This powertrain includes high-speed combustion technology, Variable Valve Timing by intelligent electric motor (VVT-iE), and aims for high thermal efficiency.
The LBX will be available in two versions: Luxury and Sports Luxury.
The Luxury grade will include standard safety technology and comfort features, such as perforated NuLuxe leather sport front seats with heating and power memory functions, a 12.3-inch interactive display, and a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM).
Design-wise, the LBX has a compact body with short overhangs and a low centre of gravity. The vehicle's appearance is completed with two-tone paint and 18-inch alloy wheels. The Luxury model will be offered in a two-wheel drive configuration.
The Sports Luxury grade will be available in both two-wheel and all-wheel drive. It includes additional features like Ultrasuede leather accented seats, auto park, active noise control, and a 13-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound system.
John Pappas, Lexus Australia Chief Executive, stated that the LBX aims to maintain Lexus's standards in quality and craftsmanship, focusing on performance and dynamics in a compact SUV form.
The LBX is positioned as a new offering in the compact SUV segment from Lexus. Pricing details will be released closer to the vehicle's launch date.
