Christmas is often a time of joy and togetherness, but for many children across Australia, the season can feel like any other day. Thousands of kids go without gifts, and CarSauce, in partnership with MINI, decided to step in and make a difference this year.
Together, they pledged to donate $2,000 worth of gifts to Berry Street, one of Australia’s oldest and most respected charities.
With a plan in place, the CarSauce team, led by Matt Brand, embarked on a shopping adventure through Chadstone Shopping Centre, armed with Santa sacks and the spacious MINI Countryman JCW. The result? An unforgettable day of giving that perfectly balanced fun, charity, and the holiday spirit.
A Legacy of Helping: MINI and Berry Street Partnership
Berry Street, established in the 1870s, has been a cornerstone of support for children and families across Australia. From emergency housing to education programs, Berry Street provides essential care for some of the most vulnerable in our community. MINI and BMW Australia had already contributed gifts for over 100 children in Berry Street’s care, and CarSauce’s goal was to match that generosity by focusing on children aged 10–15.
“This partnership isn’t just about giving gifts — it’s about making Christmas magical for kids who need it most,” Matt said during the announcement.
The Shopping Spree: A Festive Mission at Chadstone
With a goal to shop for 50–100 gifts, Matt and Jacob kicked off their shopping adventure at Chadstone, starting with Kmart, where they filled their first Santa sacks with a mix of practical and exciting toys. A few hiccups arose—like a failed click-and-collect order for Santa sacks—but the team adapted quickly, ensuring the gifts still flowed.
At Smiggle, the team chose vibrant stationery, backpacks, and alarm clocks. The store staff joined the spirit of giving by donating additional items for the kids - thanks Smiggle! The LEGO Store, always a favorite, offered a treasure trove of creativity, with iconic sets like Minecraft and Star Wars. Spending quickly surpassed $600 at LEGO alone, and the team didn’t mind stretching the budget, knowing the joy these toys would bring to children.
Other stops included Rebel Sport for activewear and sports gear and JB Hi-Fi, where portable speakers and tech gadgets like wireless headphones added a modern twist to the gift selection. “We wanted a mix of gifts that would appeal to different interests and make sure no child feels left out,” Matt explained.
Packing Up the MINI Countryman JCW
With an impressive $2,091.24 worth of gifts in hand, it was time to test the MINI Countryman JCW’s storage capabilities. The car didn’t disappoint. With 505 litres of boot space—55 litres more than its predecessor—packing was smooth and efficient. For larger loads, like the extra-large Santa sacks, the rear seats folded down to reveal an expansive 1,530 litres of cargo space.
“We managed to fit everything without breaking a sweat. The Countryman JCW really shines as a practical SUV,” said Matt, highlighting the car’s suitability for both family outings and charitable missions.
A Day of Giving: Delivering Gifts to MINI Headquarters
After loading the gifts, the CarSauce team made their way to MINI’s headquarters, where the presents joined BMW and MINI’s donations. Berry Street planned to distribute these gifts in time for Christmas, ensuring children would have something to smile about during the festive season.
“This was more than just a shopping trip,” Matt said. “It’s about showing these kids that they’re not forgotten, that they’re cared for. That’s what Christmas is all about.”
The MINI Countryman JCW: Big Love in a Compact SUV
While the focus of the day was on giving back, the MINI Countryman JCW showcased its own festive cheer. Its 233 kW engine and 400 Nm of torque offered exhilarating performance, while its go-kart-like handling made navigating Chadstone’s busy parking lot a breeze.
Inside, MINI’s all-new circular OLED display drew plenty of attention. The display, which offers multiple experiences including our personal favourite - 'Timeless', reminiscent of vintage watch faces - added a unique charm to the modern SUV.
“This is not your average car,” Matt noted. “From its performance to its design, everything about the Countryman JCW feels special.”
Looking Ahead: Could This Be an Annual Tradition?
As the day wrapped up, Matt reflected on the joy of giving back. “It’s not every day you get to spend $2,000 on gifts for kids in need, and it feels incredible to be part of something like this. Maybe we make this an annual tradition,” he said.
MINI’s motto, “Big Love,” resonated throughout the day. The partnership with CarSauce didn’t just provide gifts—it brought hope, smiles, and the magic of Christmas to kids who need it most.
From everyone at CarSauce and MINI, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
