Toyota has confirmed it will begin manufacturing an electric HiLux ute by late 2025, initially targeting the Thai market, with potential for exports.
Following the introduction of the HiLux Revo BEV concept in Australia last year, production plans for the electric variant have been solidified.
Pras Ganesh, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motors Asia, stated that production will occur in Thailand, and export possibilities are being considered.
The electric HiLux is anticipated to be available in 2026. Australian engineers, who previously accessed the HiLux Revo BEV, may see this model introduced in Australia.
Currently, a limited number of pre-production electric HiLux units are being tested in Thailand.
These single-cab, short-range vehicles are part of the pre-production trials.
Details regarding battery size, range, payload, and towing capacity have not yet been disclosed.
The development process aims to balance battery capacity with vehicle weight and usability. The possibility of an electric dual-cab version remains uncertain.
