Subaru has unveiled its latest model, the 2023 Subaru Impreza Hatchback, indicating a direction towards a sportier and more versatile driving experience. With its official launch, here's what potential buyers and enthusiasts can expect.
This version of the Subaru Impreza is available in three hatchback variants: AWD 2.0L, AWD 2.0R, and AWD 2.0S, with a starting price of $31,490. Each variant of the sixth-generation vehicle offers different features, ensuring a range of options for consumers.
The hatchback is equipped with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a direct injection 2.0-litre Boxer engine. The engine is paired with a Lineartronic® transmission, which features an 8-speed paddle shift manual mode.
Subaru's Impreza has been redesigned with an emphasis on the comfort of its occupants. The company's focus on a human-centred design approach reflects in the vehicle's interior. According to reports, Subaru Corporation in Japan collaborated with a medical school to study the human body's structure and mechanisms behind driver discomfort. This has resulted in interior changes aimed at minimizing fatigue, especially during longer journeys.
The car's exterior features a large hexagonal grille and contour lines along the doors. The hatchback comes with LED headlights that adjust according to dusk and dawn, ensuring visibility during varied lighting conditions. Further, the AWD 2.0R and AWD 2.0S variants have added Steering Responsive Headlights and front cornering lamps.
On the technology front, the Subaru Impreza comes with an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen. The system provides wireless connectivity options for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. For charging devices, both USB type A and USB type C ports are available. Additionally, wireless Qi smartphone charging has been integrated for added convenience.
Safety remains a paramount concern for Subaru. The latest Subaru Impreza is equipped with the Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist System, which includes a stereo camera system and a Wide-Angle Monocular Camera. These systems enhance the car's ability to recognize pedestrians and bicycles, especially during low-speed intersection entries. Another safety addition is the Driver Monitoring System Driver Focus, designed to monitor driver fatigue and inattention. If detected, the system alerts the driver through the Multi-Information Display. This iteration of the Impreza also has nine SRS airbags, an increase from the previous seven.
Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a standard in the Impreza variants, is mounted on the Subaru Global Platform, reportedly increasing torsional rigidity by ten percent. Under the hood, the car's 2.0-litre direct injection Boxer engine is complemented by a Lineartronic® transmission, providing a balanced performance.
Blair Read, Subaru Australia's Managing Director, noted the 2023 Impreza's attributes, mentioning its handling, design, and safety features. He described the vehicle as versatile, suitable for various driving conditions and needs.
For those interested, pre-orders for the all-new Subaru Impreza can be placed through Subaru's official website or at local Subaru retailers. Deliveries are expected to begin in December 2023.
