Xpeng has initiated pre-orders for the G6 electric SUV, indicating the brand's entry into the Australian electric vehicle sector.
Set for delivery in late 2024, the G6 is positioned against competitors such as Tesla's Model Y.
Pricing details are anticipated to be announced in September 2024.
The G6 is available in two versions: the Standard and the Long. The Standard variant is equipped with a 66kWh lithium-ion battery, capable of covering up to 435 kilometres on a single charge per the WLTP standard, and features a rear-mounted electric motor that delivers 190kW power and 440Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint in 6.9 seconds.
The Long variant houses an 87.5kWh battery extending the range to 570 kilometres, with the motor output increased to 210kW, maintaining the same torque but improving the acceleration time to 6.7 seconds.
Both models incorporate an 800-volt 'Xpower' electric system and support fast charging, with capabilities of recharging from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes.
The G6 is offered in five exterior colours and comes with options for a black or white leatherette interior.
Standard equipment across both models includes 20-inch alloy wheels.
Notably, the G6 Performance model, featuring dual motors and all-wheel drive, is currently not available in Australia.
The G6's features list for overseas models includes a 15-inch infotainment screen, an 18-speaker sound system, and multiple smartphone charging options, among others.
Specifications for the Australian market will be confirmed closer to the vehicle's release.
Xpeng's G6 is targeted to achieve a five-star ANCAP safety rating, though it has not yet undergone testing.
The vehicle is expected to feature advanced driver assistance technology similar to those found in competing models.
Xpeng's introduction of the G6 into the Australian market comes with a promise of competitive features and specifications, aimed at appealing to electric SUV buyers.
