2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV Arrives In Australian Dealerships From Late June
Toyota's first plug-in hybrid for Australia, the 2026 RAV4 PHEV, will reach local dealerships from late June in XSE and GR Sport grades.
Toyota Australia's first plug-in hybrid vehicle will reach local dealerships from late June, when the 2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV joins the sixth-generation RAV4 line-up.
The local range will launch in three grades: XSE 2WD, XSE AWD and the range-topping GR Sport AWD.
Pricing spans from $58,840 for the XSE 2WD, followed by $63,340 for the XSE AWD and $66,340 for the GR Sport AWD.
Toyota Australia Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations John Pappas said the model formed part of the brand's broader powertrain strategy.
"The arrival of our first plug-in hybrid model further expands our multi-pathway strategy that aims to provide the right powertrain for the right vehicle and its intended use," Mr Pappas said.
"For RAV4, we have already launched the extremely efficient all-new sixth-generation model in hybrid versions and the new PHEV models will provide greater performance for those who really enjoy their driving out on the open road, along with the ability to run on electric power alone for shorter trips around the city," he said.
Australian range and pricing
The RAV4 PHEV line-up sits above the hybrid versions of the new-generation SUV, bringing plug-in capability and higher outputs to the range.
The XSE 2WD is the entry point to the plug-in hybrid range, while all-wheel-drive versions add a second electric motor generator on the rear axle.
| Variant | Price | Drive | Combined maximum output | EV-only range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RAV4 XSE 2WD PHEV | $58,840 | 2WD | 200kW | Up to 154km NEDC / 121km WLTP |
| RAV4 XSE AWD PHEV | $63,340 | AWD | 227kW | Up to 144km NEDC / 113km WLTP |
| RAV4 GR Sport AWD PHEV | $66,340 | AWD | 227kW | Up to 144km NEDC / 113km WLTP |
The RAV4 XSE 2WD PHEV combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a front electric motor generator for a combined maximum output of 200kW.
AWD versions add a second electric motor generator on the rear axle, lifting combined maximum output to 227kW for the XSE AWD and GR Sport AWD.
Toyota says that makes the XSE AWD and GR Sport AWD the most powerful RAV4 variants yet.
All RAV4 PHEV variants use a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with support for 50kW DC charging and 11kW three-phase AC charging.
The 2WD version offers up to 154km of electric-only driving on the NEDC test cycle, or 121km on the WLTP cycle.
AWD versions, including the GR Sport, are rated at up to 144km on NEDC testing, or 113km on WLTP.
XSE PHEV variants broadly mirror the equipment level of their hybrid counterparts, while adding larger disc brakes and a 1500W inverter with a three-pin plug in the luggage area for powering small appliances.
The GR Sport AWD gains a 20mm wider track, front performance dampers, a rear brace, unique spring and damper rates, and a specific steering tune.
Toyota says the GR Sport also receives exterior and interior changes aimed at aerodynamics and a sportier appearance.
The sixth-generation RAV4 launched locally without an ANCAP rating, with Toyota previously confirming a later safety-related running change for the new RAV4 range.
The RAV4 PHEV will join Toyota Australia's existing hybrid, petrol, diesel, battery-electric and fuel-cell electric offerings as the brand continues to broaden its local powertrain mix.
