BMW Australia has priced the fifth-generation X5 from $143,900 before on-road costs, with the new large SUV due here in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The initial Australian line-up will comprise two six-cylinder variants: the diesel-powered BMW X5 40d xDrive and the petrol-powered BMW X5 40 xDrive.
Both use xDrive all-wheel drive and 48V mild-hybrid technology, with outputs of 230kW and 670Nm for the diesel, and 294kW and 540Nm for the petrol.
The petrol X5 40 xDrive has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 5.3 seconds, while the diesel X5 40d xDrive completes the same sprint in 6.1 seconds.
The new X5 also brings BMW Panoramic iDrive and BMW Operating System X to the model, with a 17.9-inch central display, BMW Panoramic Vision, a BMW 3D Head-Up Display and a new front passenger screen.
Standard equipment for both launch variants includes the M Sport Package, 21-inch wheels, Adaptive M Suspension, a panoramic glass sunroof, ventilated and massaging front seats, soft-close doors, Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Professional.
The cabin is a five-seat layout, while towing capacity is listed at up to 3500kg when fitted with the optional trailer tow hitch preparation.
BMW says more than 3.1 million X5s have been sold globally since the original model launched in 1999, including more than 80,000 in Australia.
From Q1 2027, the local X5 family is set to expand with the all-electric BMW iX5 and the BMW X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid.
