Australian allocation and pricing
The edition spans six BMW M models globally, but four are confirmed for Australia. Half of the local cars will be finished in an exclusive BMW Individual Nürburgring Green and half in Black Sapphire metallic. Here's how the 16 cars are split:
- BMW M2 xDrive: 6 cars, $155,800
- BMW M3 Competition Sedan M xDrive: 4 cars, $210,800
- BMW M4 Competition Coupe M xDrive: 4 cars, $215,800
- BMW M5 Sedan: 2 cars, $280,800
Prices are MRLP including GST and LCT, but exclude on-road costs. Only two M5 Sedans are coming, one in each colour.
What makes it different
Every car gets an edition-specific roof treatment, “100” anniversary insignia, “Nürburgring since 1927” lettering and circuit silhouettes, plus bespoke interior details. Each model takes the theme a slightly different way:
- M2 xDrive: anniversary roof and painted motifs, black M brake callipers, contrasting rear design elements, an M Alcantara steering wheel with a white 12 o'clock marker, and bi-colour Black/White M seats with Green, Black and White stitching.
- M3 Competition Sedan: a contrasting kidney grille surround, high-gloss Jet Black wheels with Nürburgring Green accents, plus a matching Alcantara wheel and bi-colour seats.
- M4 Competition Coupe: an edition roof, anniversary graphics, a contrasting grille surround and Jet Black wheels with green accents.
- M5 Sedan: an edition roof, wheels with Nürburgring Green accents, model-specific door sill trims, bi-colour M seats and an M steering wheel with green and white stitching.
BMW's tagline for the edition is “Born on the Racetrack. Made for the Streets.”
Specs
BMW hasn't mentioned any mechanical changes. These are the outputs it quotes for each edition:
- M2 xDrive: 3.0-litre M TwinPower Turbo inline six, 353kW and 600Nm, eight-speed M Steptronic, M xDrive, 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds
- M3 Competition Sedan M xDrive: 3.0-litre M TwinPower Turbo inline six, 390kW and 650Nm, 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds
- M4 Competition Coupe M xDrive: 3.0-litre M TwinPower Turbo inline six, 390kW and 650Nm, 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds
- M5 Sedan: 4.4-litre M TwinPower Turbo V8 with M HYBRID, 535kW and 1,000Nm, M xDrive, 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds
How it compares to rivals
The M3 edition's closest rival is the Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance. Mercedes-Benz Australia quotes a 350kW/545Nm 2.0-litre turbo four plus a 150kW/320Nm electric motor, for combined outputs of 500kW and 1,020Nm, and a 0-100km/h time of 3.4 seconds. Here's how they line up:
- Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance: 500kW/1,020Nm, 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds, about $195,000 before on-road costs
- BMW M3 Competition 100 Jahre Nürburgring: 390kW/650Nm, 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds, $210,800 before on-road costs
That makes the Nürburgring M3 roughly $15,000 dearer than the Mercedes, with less power and torque and a tenth slower to 100km/h on paper. But it's one of only four coming to Australia, and it keeps a six-cylinder rather than a hybrid four.
The Nürburgring connection
The Nürburgring opened in 1927 as both a race circuit and a testing ground. Its 20.832km Nordschleife, nicknamed the “Green Hell”, is still central to BMW M development.
BMW test drivers have used the circuit since the 1960s, and a BMW 2002 Ti won the first Nürburgring 24 Hour race in 1970. BMW M is now the circuit's Official Automotive Partner and runs a Test Centre there.
Why Australia gets an allocation
Australia is one of BMW M's strongest markets relative to overall BMW sales. Between January and September 2026, Australians bought 3,639 BMW M and M Performance vehicles, 20.5 per cent of the brand's local sales. In 2025, Australia accounted for 9.8 per cent of global BMW M sales, with 5,837 units sold.
When it arrives
Production of the M3, M4 and M5 editions starts in January 2027, with the M2 following in March 2027. Initial Australian deliveries are expected from the second quarter of 2027. BMW Australia says customers should contact their nearest dealer for pricing enquiries.
