Tesla FSD Owners Can Now Get Cheaper Insurance In Australia
Zurich has added Tesla FSD (Supervised) as a risk rating factor for InsureMyTesla in Australia, citing lower collision rates.
Zurich has added Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised) as a rating factor for InsureMyTesla in Australia, allowing eligible Tesla owners using the technology to have it recognised in their vehicle insurance pricing.
The insurer describes the move as an Australian first and the second time globally an insurer has recognised FSD (Supervised) as a risk rating factor.
Zurich says Tesla data indicates vehicles using FSD (Supervised) have seven times fewer major or minor collisions compared with regular EVs.
The product update comes after the feature launched in Australia and New Zealand in October 2025, with customers logging one million kilometres of FSD (Supervised) driving within two weeks.
Local Tesla customers have now self-driven more than 132 million kilometres using the feature, with average daily use more than five times higher than at launch.
Tesla FSD (Supervised) vehicles use eight external cameras to provide a 360-degree view around the car and process more than one million pixels of visual data every millisecond.
The insurance change lands as self-driving and driver-assistance software becomes a more active battleground for EV brands, including XPENG's planned Tesla FSD rival for Australia.
What Zurich and Tesla said
Alex Morgan, Head of General Insurance at Zurich, said: “As vehicle technology and driver behaviour continues to evolve at an extraordinary pace, it is critical that we continue to innovate alongside this change.”
“By combining Tesla’s fine-grained data with Zurich’s sophisticated underwriting technology and motor expertise, this expanded proposition offers the same high-quality insurance at a more affordable cost due to the reduced risk associated with supervised self-driving,” Mr Morgan said.
David Toma, Product Manager at Zurich, said: “This is a really exciting milestone - both for Tesla owners who are rapidly adopting this FSD (Supervised) technology, and for Zurich as the first insurer in Australia to actively lean into this space.”
“The data shows that drivers using this technology are involved in far fewer accidents, so it’s important they can access insurance that reflects this lower risk,” Mr Toma said.
Thom Drew, Country Director, Australia and New Zealand at Tesla, said: “We're pleased to see the insurance industry recognising the safety and value of FSD (Supervised).”
“The data is clear - FSD (Supervised) is making driving significantly safer, and it's encouraging to see InsureMyTesla by Zurich pioneering this benefit and reflecting the reduced risk for Tesla owners,” Mr Drew said.
The updated InsureMyTesla offering draws on local and international Tesla data and applies to eligible Australian customers with FSD (Supervised) technology in their vehicle.
