The G9L will sit alongside the G6, X9 and L03 in Australian showrooms, expanding a local range that already includes the X9 electric people mover.

The large SUV has been shown with both pure-electric and range-extender electric powertrains, plus six-seat and seven-seat cabin layouts.

XPENG says the G9L has undergone three years of testing across 26 countries and regions, covering more than 6.74 million kilometres.

Safety equipment includes nine airbags as standard, automatic emergency braking at speeds of up to 150km/h and stability support following a tyre blowout.

The G9L also features XPENG NGP, the brand's next-generation assisted-driving technology, using VLA 2.0 technology and a high-computing-power AI architecture.

NGP functions include city and highway assisted driving, navigation-based assisted driving, intelligent lane changes, route decisions, traffic light and road sign recognition, intersection assistance, roundabout assistance, narrow-road assistance and advanced parking support.

XPENG intends to roll out NGP for customers in Australia and New Zealand during 2027.

XPENG G9L key specs

The REEV version uses a 63kWh LFP battery and offers 287km of WLTP electric range before the range extender is required.

Combined WLTP range is listed at up to 1200km.

REEV outputs are listed at 430kW and 695Nm, with a 0 to 100km/h time of 5.4 seconds.

A pure-electric version will also be offered with up to 430kW and 695Nm.

The pure EV version uses a 110kWh battery, has up to 553km of WLTP range and supports a peak DC charge speed of 540kW on a suitable charger.
