2025 GWM Cannon Ute Announced With More Power

2025 GWM Cannon Ute Announced With More Power

The 2025 GWM Cannon is set to arrive in dealerships from February 2025, with some important updates accompanying the ute’s new name.

Previously (and confusingly) called the GWM Ute, the Cannon name should be familiar, as the badge was used on different variants in the past – being the Cannon-L and Cannon-X.

But the new name is arguably the least exciting change, with GWM confirming the Cannon will drop the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine in favour of a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder borrowed from the larger Cannon Alpha – which is also set to arrive in Australia in the coming months.

The upgraded engine means more power for buyers, with performance jumping from 120kW and 400Nm to 135kW and 480Nm, with all four wheels driven by a nine-speed automatic transmission as standard.

The GWM’s towing capacity now also matches the industry-standard 3500kg (braked) – up from 3200kg.

A minor refresh of the exterior and interior are set to accompany the ‘new’ Cannon.

Full pricing and specifications are expected to be announced closer to the launch of the 2025 GWM Cannon ute in February.
