2025 Kia EV5 Australian Launch Delayed Due to Technical Updates

The release of the 2025 Kia EV5 in Australia has been postponed to address last-minute technical issues involving wheel components and software.

The initial launch, scheduled for late June, is now delayed, with a new date yet to be announced. Kia Australia cited unforeseen updates as the reason for the delay, and efforts are underway to resolve these issues in collaboration with their manufacturing team.

The delay, expected to last about a month, has affected the scheduled introduction of the Air and Earth models, with the GT-Line variant planned for release later in the year.

The Kia EV5 will be Kia’s first vehicle sourced from China for the Australian market, contrasting with the UK market, where vehicles will ship from Korea starting in 2025.

Kia Australia is working to align the EV5 with local market expectations, including adjustments to the vehicle's suspension.

The EV5 will be offered in various configurations, including standard and long-range batteries, and options for single-motor front-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive.

The single-motor model produces 160kW and offers two battery sizes—64kWh and 88kWh—providing ranges between 530km and 720km.

The all-wheel drive variant features an additional 70kW motor, bringing total output to 230kW and a range of up to 650km.

While the specific pricing and full specifications for the Australian market remain undisclosed, expectations suggest they will be comparable to the smaller Niro EV, which is priced from $66,590 before on-road costs.

Kia anticipates significant demand, aiming to import up to 850 EV5s per month.
