Volkswagen has revealed the 2025 Transporter van and Caravelle people mover in Europe.
The T7-generation Transporter is based on the Ford Transit Custom, following a collaboration between Volkswagen and Ford established in 2019.
This partnership has also produced models like the VW Amarok and Ford Ranger.
The Transporter will offer multiple powertrains, including diesel, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and battery electric (BEV) options.
The diesel engines come in 81kW, 110kW, and 125kW variants.
The PHEV combines a petrol engine and an electric motor for a total output of 171kW.
BEV models will be available with 100kW, 160kW, and 210kW options, all featuring a 64kWh battery pack.
Diesel and PHEV models are front-wheel drive, while BEV models will be rear-wheel drive, with an all-wheel drive BEV option planned for future release.
The new Transporter and Caravelle will be produced in Turkey alongside Ford's models.
The T7 Transporter features minor design differences from the Transit Custom, including a restyled front end and unique infotainment software.
Various body styles will be available, including short and long-wheelbase options, and configurations such as the Kombi, panel van, and dropside, along with the nine-seat Caravelle.
Interior features include a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, a larger digital instrument cluster, and advanced safety features.
The van also comes with an electric parking brake, a column-mounted gear selector, and full-LED exterior lights.
Load capacity ranges from 5.8m³ for the shortest model to 9.0m³ for the longest.
The braked towing capacity has increased from 2.5 tonnes to 2.8 tonnes.
The PanAmericana variant, designed for off-road use, will be available in both panel van and Caravelle body styles.
It features rugged exterior trims, grained bumpers, and a painted radiator grille.
Inside, it includes stainless steel side-step inlays, gloss black dash trim, and chrome interior door handles.
The Transporter will launch in Germany at the beginning of next year, with Australian availability expected later in 2025.
