McLaren Designers Spin Off Luxury Brand

Two former car designers from McLaren have started up their own luxury brand, called Ennua.

Following their work on penning the McLaren Speedtail, Elva, and Artura – as well as the latest halo model, the W1 hypercar – Joao Dias and Patrick Carton have left the British carmaker to begin creating their own luxury goods, Car Design News reports.

The men, of Portuguese and Irish Gaelic origins, have launched the company with its first piece – a chair made of carbon-fibre and dark tobacco leather with gold accents.

“We’ve worked at McLaren for so long and wanted to bring that same kind of approach to something that, in general, is just quite logical and mundane everywhere else. A chair is just a chair – there is never really any magic to it,” Dias explained to CDN.

“With a supercar, you have that combination of theatre but also functionality, and we wanted to implement that way of thinking. We want products that compel you to approach them and engage with them, not just sit there.”

While Ennua’s pieces are unlikely to be cheap, those after the same kind of carbon-fibre sculpture in their home as that found on a McLaren can visit the website by clicking here.
