The Mercedes-Benz G-Class range is set to expand.
After years of rumours, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed a smaller version of the G-Wagen is on the way – with the model expected to be a somewhat more affordable option for buyers.
At an event in late 2023, Mercedes teased the model with a boxy silhouette of the G-Wagen accompanied by the text ‘g-Class’ – complete with a lower-case G.

At the same presentation, company CEO Ola Kallenius said the project was being developed as an electric vehicle with off-road capabilities.

Despite the vehicle being referred to colloquially as the ‘Baby G’, that particular name is owned by Casio as part of its G-Shock range of watches – suggesting ‘Little G’ is more likely to be used going forward.
However, the Little G isn’t the first G-Wagen to go electric, with Mercedes-Benz unveiling the electric G580 with EQ Technology in April 2024 (top, above and below).

The G580 uses four electric motors – one to power each wheel – to produce a combined output of 432kW and 1164Nm, making it the most powerful G-Class ever.
Despite weighing more than three tonnes, the German carmaker says the G580 can cover the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.7 seconds, while offering a driving range of up to 473 kilometres.
The Little G probably won’t be quite as impressive, given it’s expected to share its underpinnings with the next generation of GLA and GLB small electric SUVs.

According to the UK’s AutoExpress, the ‘MMA’ platform can be fitted with dual electric motors for four-wheel drive, as well as a battery of up to 88kWh.
The platform does allow for the possibility of a petrol engine, though there's no indication the Little G will be offered as anything other than an electric vehicle.
While timing for the Little G hasn’t been announced at this stage, it’s believed the vehicle will be revealed later in 2025 ahead of a 2026 or 2027 launch.
