Mitsubishi Announces Triton Updates, Including GLX-R Return and Tailgate Assist

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has announced updates for the 2024.5 model year Triton range, including the return of the GLX-R nameplate. The updated Triton models, set for release in October 2024, will see an expansion of the Dual Cab Utility lineup and include the debut of a tailgate assist feature.

The GLX-R nameplate is back, offering a distinct visual identity and a value-focused specification. Positioned as a Dual Cab Utility, the GLX-R is based on the GLX range and features a six-speed automatic transmission and a 4x4 drivetrain. The GLX-R includes Mitsubishi’s Super Select II 4WD system, along with the Drive Mode Terrain Control System.

The GLX-R model receives a standard-duty suspension similar to the higher-grade GLS and GSR trims. The front suspension uses a high-mounted upper wishbone layout with 36mm shock absorber cylinders. The rear features a setup of three high tensile steel leaves to provide a comfortable ride under various load conditions.

The GLX-R is visually distinguished by its black 18-inch alloy wheels, black sports bar, leather steering wheel, fully carpeted floor, and exterior body mouldings. It also omits side-steps, adding to its unique appearance within the Triton range.

The 2024.5 Triton lineup introduces tailgate assist, a dual strut system aiding the tailgate's opening and closing. This feature will also be available on the GLS and GSR models in the coming weeks, following customer and dealer feedback.

The pricing for the 2024.5 model year Triton range starts at $43,690 for the 4x2 GLX Double Cab Pick-Up and extends to $63,840 for the 4x4 GSR Double Cab Pick-Up. The GLX-R is priced at $56,740, offering a mid-range option in the lineup.

The Triton range is backed by Mitsubishi’s Diamond Advantage warranty and servicing program, which includes a 10-year/200,000-kilometre manufacturer’s warranty and 10-year capped price servicing. Roadside assistance is provided for up to four years, contingent on servicing at authorised Mitsubishi dealers.
