Skoda has announced a reduction in its entry-level pricing for the Fabia range with the introduction of the new base model, Fabia Select, set to be available in Australian showrooms starting August 2024.
This new model is priced at $31,990 drive-away, making it $7,000 cheaper than the Fabia Monte Carlo.
The Fabia Select is equipped with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 85kW of power and 200Nm of torque.
This is in contrast to the more powerful 1.5-liter engine in the Monte Carlo model, which delivers 110kW and 250Nm. Both models feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and are front-wheel drive.
The exterior of the Fabia Select includes 16-inch alloy wheels and automatic LED headlights and tail lights. It also has halogen fog lights.
The interior is fitted with an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.25-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Select model features manual air conditioning controls, differing from the Monte Carlo's dual-zone climate control.
It maintains several safety features, such as autonomous emergency braking, parking sensors, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
The Fabia Select's pricing positions it similarly to the high-end Mazda 2 GT and the base Volkswagen Polo Life.
It is also included in Skoda's guaranteed future value financing program, which might appeal to cost-sensitive consumers.
The Select badge will also be applied to other models in the Skoda lineup, such as the Kamiq, Scala, and Karoq, later this year.
The Fabia Select, part of Skoda's strategy to offer competitively priced options, comes with a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and is slated for delivery in August.
