Jaecoo Australia has added a hybrid version of the J5 small SUV, with the single-variant 2026 Jaecoo J5 Hybrid Summit priced from $34,990 drive-away.

The new hybrid variant joins the petrol and electric J5 line-up, following the earlier local rollout of the petrol-powered J5 and electric J5.

The J5 Hybrid shares its platform with the 2026 Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid, but is positioned above it with a more premium cabin specification and a multi-link rear suspension layout.

At $34,990 drive-away, the J5 Hybrid Summit is $2000 dearer than the 2026 Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid Ultimate and $5000 dearer than the 2026 Chery Tiggo 4 Hybrid Urban.

Power comes from Jaecoo’s series-parallel Super Hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor.

The petrol engine produces 105kW and 215Nm, while the electric motor is rated at 150kW and 310Nm.

Combined system output is listed at 165kW and 295Nm.

Drive is sent to the front wheels through a dedicated hybrid transmission.

Unlike the plug-in hybrid systems used in the J7 and J8 SHS, the J5 Hybrid does not require external charging.

Jaecoo lists combined fuel consumption at 5.6L/100km and CO2 emissions at 126g/km.

The hybrid shares its overall exterior design with the petrol J5, but gains 18-inch ‘Aero’ alloy wheels.

Standard equipment includes an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster, 13.2-inch central display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, intelligent voice command, a fixed panoramic glass roof and a powered tailgate.

The cabin also includes heated and ventilated front seats, colour-selectable ambient lighting, front-door acoustic glass and TÜV-certified pet-friendly synthetic leather trim.

Jaecoo says the silicone-based synthetic leather is antibacterial, wear-resistant and easier to clean.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and emergency lane keeping.

The J5 Hybrid is due in Australian showrooms from August 2026.

It will be covered by an eight-year/unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty, an eight-year/unlimited kilometre battery warranty, eight years of capped-price servicing and up to eight years of roadside assistance.
