Toyota Australia has secured 10,000 additional vehicles for local customers in 2026, lifting its full-year sales forecast to 220,000 vehicles.

The extra allocation spans several high-demand nameplates, including the Toyota RAV4, Toyota HiLux and Toyota bZ4X.

It also lands as BYD increases pressure on established brands, with a 5000-vehicle shipment of hybrid and electric cars recently arriving in Australia.

On raw volume, Toyota’s additional 2026 allocation is twice the size of that BYD shipload.

BYD’s recent rise has already been reflected in monthly sales charts, with CarSauce previously reporting the Chinese brand climbed to second place in April as electric vehicles accounted for 16.4 per cent of the market.

Toyota says the additional production includes the RAV4, which was Australia’s best-selling SUV in 2025, the HiLux, which is Toyota’s number one selling vehicle locally year-to-date, and the bZ4X, Toyota’s first all-electric model in Australia.

Toyota Australia remains the only brand to have sold more than 200,000 vehicles in Australia in a single year.

More RAV4, HiLux and bZ4X supply

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations John Pappas said the added production reflected ongoing demand from Australian buyers.

"Toyota has been part of Australian communities for almost seventy years, and we continue to see strong demand from customers who rely on us for their mobility needs," said John Pappas, Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations at Toyota Australia.

"This increase in supply is great news for our customers and dealers," Pappas said.

"Vehicles like HiLux remain essential for many Australians, while RAV4 continues to lead the SUV segment thanks to its versatility, drivability and efficiency," he said.

"We will continue working closely with our global production teams to secure additional supply where possible and ensure we are meeting the needs of Australian customers today and into the future," Pappas said.

The RAV4 line-up is also expanding locally, with the Toyota RAV4 PHEV due to reach Australian dealerships from late June.

Toyota has not detailed how the 10,000 extra vehicles will be split by model line or grade.

The additional allocation gives Toyota more stock for key SUV, ute and EV lines as competition from newer brands, particularly BYD, continues to reshape the Australian new-car market.
