Toyota Australia has launched a factory-approved secondary immobiliser for the LandCruiser 300 and LandCruiser Prado 250 as vehicle theft remains a major concern across the country.

The Toyota Genuine Accessory Secondary Immobiliser is available now through Toyota dealers at a fitted cost of $1,735 for current-generation versions of both four-wheel-drive SUVs.

Toyota says the system adds an extra layer of start authentication on top of the vehicle’s factory-fitted immobiliser.

It is designed so the vehicle cannot be started unless the immobiliser fob is within range.

The package also includes an independently powered siren with battery backup, designed to activate after unauthorised actions and continue operating even if the vehicle’s main electrical power is disconnected.

New Toyota models also getting security upgrades

Toyota says the new HiLux, LandCruiser 300 and LandCruiser Prado 250 received security enhancements during 2025.

Those changes are continuing to be rolled out to newer models such as the all-new RAV4, after the latest RAV4 PHEV began reaching Australian dealerships earlier this year.

Toyota Australia says it is not aware of any occurrences of vehicle theft in Australia using sophisticated devices on that range of vehicles as at publication.

The company has cautioned that the secondary immobiliser is designed to enhance security, not guarantee complete theft prevention.

Toyota says owner awareness and layered security remain important, because no vehicle security system is impervious to theft.

Toyota Australia is also backing broader regulation aimed at reducing vehicle theft.

The company says it supports the banning of devices used to facilitate vehicle theft, as well as regulation of legitimate devices used by locksmiths, mechanics and other automotive professionals.

Toyota says it is continuing to work with law enforcement agencies, industry and government on the issue.
