Nissan Australia has confirmed the all-new Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid will join its local line-up in 2027.

The new ute will be Nissan Australia's first plug-in hybrid model and Nissan's first electrified ute globally, with Australia and New Zealand set to be the first right-hand-drive markets to offer it.

It follows the earlier overseas reveal of the Navara Pro Plug-in Hybrid, but the Oceania version will use a different powertrain from the globally announced 1.5-litre turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid set-up.

For Australia and New Zealand, Nissan has selected a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Preliminary outputs are listed at 300kW and 800Nm, subject to final homologation.

Nissan says the choice of powertrain followed evaluation of both 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre PHEV options against local expectations for towing, payload and sustained performance.

The Navara Pro PHEV will have a mechanical 4x4 system, mechanical differential-lock capability, up to 1000kg of payload and a 3500kg braked towing capacity, all subject to final homologation where applicable.

Steve Milette, Managing Director, Nissan Oceania, said the ute had been developed with regional requirements in mind.

"The all-new Navara Pro PHEV represents exactly the kind of product-led momentum that our Nissan Vision Strategy is built on.
Developed with our partners in China and engineered to meet the specific requirements of our region, it shows what Nissan is capable of delivering and what our customers can expect from us as we move forward," Mr Milette said.

"Utes have been central to Nissan in Australia for decades, with the Navara now spanning five generations.
As the sixth generation of the Navara nameplate, the all-new Navara Pro PHEV is the next expression of that commitment - combining the capability and versatility customers expect from a Navara with new electrified technology, while opening a new chapter for Nissan's ute offering in Australia."

Local testing and preliminary specifications

Nissan says the first Navara Pro PHEV prototypes arrived in Australia in 2025, beginning a local development and evaluation program.

Five development and prototype vehicles have been brought to Australia during the program and have covered more than 20,000km in local conditions, with testing continuing.

The program has included powertrain, suspension, driver assistance calibration, terrain and drive modes, tyres, differential-lock configurations, towing and load performance.

Nissan has also assessed both leaf-spring and multi-link coil-spring rear suspension configurations for the Oceania market.

The final Australian suspension set-up will be confirmed closer to the start of sales.

The Navara Pro PHEV will offer four drive modes: Eco, Standard, Sport and Slippery.

It will also offer seven terrain modes: Standard, Deep Snow, Mud, Sand, Rock, Wading and Expert.

Available vehicle-to-load capability will allow the ute to provide electrical power for work, touring, camping and recreation uses.

The five-seat dual-cab ute will be offered with available equipment depending on grade, including a large central touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, and heated and ventilated front seats.

Final equipment, pricing, battery details and estimated EV-only driving range will be announced closer to launch.

The Navara Pro PHEV's design includes three horizontal LED elements above the grille, referencing the three-slot bonnet opening of the 1980s D21 Hardbody pickup.

Nissan says the ute will be backed by its Nissan MORE extended warranty program, which can provide up to 10 years or 300,000km of coverage when servicing with authorised Nissan dealers.

The standard warranty remains five years and unlimited kilometres if the service-activated extended warranty conditions are not met.

More detail on grades, Australian pricing, final specifications and EV driving range will be released closer to the Navara Pro PHEV's arrival in local retailers next year.
